Chapter 499

Vanessa Kalmien strode out of the café in her high heels, her smile vanishing instantly.

She wiped her wrist with disgust where Leonard Lefèvre had touched her.

How dare this old man dream of romance with her?

Back then, she'd only agreed to be his mistress because of his wealth.

Now that her looks were fading and she couldn't find a better sugar daddy, she had no choice but to stay.

"Useless old fool," Vanessa muttered under her breath.

The thought of enduring his peculiar bedroom demands tonight made her nauseous.

"Wake up, Leonard." She turned to sneer at him. "What's love got to do with our arrangement? Without money, we can't even raise your son!"

An all-night mahjong session had drained her. All she wanted was to go home and sleep.

"Go reconcile with your ex-wife. Once the Evans family acknowledges your son, their fortune will be ours eventually."

With that parting shot, Vanessa walked away without looking back.

Leonard stood frozen, his coffee cup trembling in his hand.

He never imagined this woman coveted the Evans family fortune.

Evelyn Roland shook her head as she finished the last crab roe bun.

This woman's shamelessness was truly eye-opening.

She reached for her soy milk only to find the cup empty.

"Enjoying the show, darling?" Adrian Valentine appeared behind her, holding the empty cup.

Evelyn glared. "You drank my soy milk?"

"Mediocre at best." Adrian smirked. "Not as good as yours."

Ignoring him, Evelyn got up to buy another cup.

She sipped as she walked, pretending not to notice Adrian following her.

Her phone rang.

"Victoria?"

"Sis, breakfast is ready. When are you coming home?" Victoria Laurent's voice came through.

"Go ahead without me. I'll be back in an hour." Evelyn checked the time.

"Seriously? Did you run out of town?" Victoria exclaimed dramatically. "My eyes have 100-megapixel vision, you know."

Evelyn nearly choked on her soy milk.

"Just keep it warm. I'm working late tonight—no need to prepare dinner."

"No way!" Victoria protested. "Gabrielle said you sneaked hotpot last night. Tonight you're having something light at home."

Evelyn paused mid-step. "How did she know?"

"You both reeked of hotpot!" Victoria laughed. "That's the lamest excuse ever, sis."

Grumbling, Evelyn hung up.

Ever since her pregnancy, even her beloved hotpot had been forbidden.
