Chapter 232
Adrian Valentine frowned slightly, his gaze locked onto Evelyn Roland's retreating figure.
Vincent Langley held only a few remaining pages of the manuscript. He would stop at nothing to extract Alexander Durand's secrets from Evelyn.
But she didn't even spare him a glance.
Sebastian Orlando lowered his voice. "Evelyn, that old fox—"
"Sebastian, wait here with them."
Evelyn pointed to the empty floor-to-ceiling window in the corner.
"Mr. Langley, a word in private." She strode toward the window without hesitation.
Harrison Macmillan immediately followed, unwilling to let Vincent gain the upper hand.
The three stood by the window, the space around them conspicuously vacant.
Onlookers held their breaths, watching the tense exchange unfold.
"Evelyn, do you have any other manuscripts?" Vincent cut straight to the chase.
She shook her head, a cold glint flashing in her eyes. "Weren't they always in your possession?"
She lowered her lashes to conceal the murderous intent swirling within.
Vincent's brow furrowed. She wasn't wrong.
Those photographs had been found among Alexander's limited belongings after his death.
Harrison's voice turned grave. "With the manuscripts exhausted, we must locate that map now."
Vincent's piercing stare remained fixed on Evelyn.
Her expression remained impassive. "I can't help you. The map surfaced at the Roscente auction. Over a year of searching has yielded nothing."
She relished watching these vipers turn on each other.
Harrison's background was just as complex as Vincent's. Their alliance was temporary—what would happen when their interests diverged?
"Evelyn, are you certain there are no other leads?" Vincent's suspicion was palpable.
Another shake of her head. "I didn't see him at all during his final three months."
Those months had been spent completing her final evaluation at Falcon Training Camp.
By the time she emerged, Alexander was already gone.
Her world had shattered in that moment.
The brother who always called her "Evelyn" with affectionate exasperation would never scold her for neglecting her health again.
A sheen of moisture flickered in her eyes before vanishing instantly.
Vincent and Harrison exchanged a loaded glance, united by greed.
Evelyn was now their only key to finding the map.
"Evelyn, you must assist me with this." Vincent adopted a solemn tone. "It was Alexander's dying wish."
She feigned surprise. "His wish?"
"Of course. He scoured the earth for those rare violet diamonds to gift his beloved."
Vincent studied her reaction closely. Surely this sentimental ploy would sway her.
