Chapter 214

"Evelyn..." Adrian Valentine's voice cracked as the name escaped his lips.

Her car had already disappeared down the street.

He stood frozen, anguish threatening to consume him.

......

Inside the vehicle, Sebastian Orlando's knuckles whitened around the steering wheel. "Will this make him give up?"

Evelyn gazed out the window. "We're divorced. He's just uncomfortable seeing you with me."

No one understood Adrian's possessiveness better than she did.

A shadow flickered in Sebastian's eyes, his jaw tightening.

Evelyn caught the subtle shift in his demeanor.

But within seconds, his usual gentle composure returned.

The momentary darkness might as well have been her imagination.

After dropping off the items, Sebastian rushed back to his office.

Evelyn fed the children before meeting Scarlett Orlando for shopping. Returning to the studio, security and receptionists greeted her with deference.

Except one receptionist whose hostile glare didn't escape notice.

Evelyn ignored it, heading straight for the elevator.

Life offered too many battles—she chose her peace.

Adrian arrived at the building just as Evelyn reached the elevator.

He quickened his pace, only to be intercepted by Isabella Langley.

"Adrian, your cousin hit me." Isabella clutched his arm, her masked face the picture of委屈.

Evelyn's fingers trembled at the familiar voice.

She inhaled deeply, willing herself not to turn.

"Evelyn? What are you doing here?" Isabella's shrill demand pierced the air.

Evelyn turned, her gaze sweeping past the other woman.

Isabella's white plunging neckline dress left little to imagination.

"Meeting with a client." Evelyn's tone remained detached.

"Stop pretending!" Isabella stamped her foot. "Adrian already—"

"Enough." Evelyn's icy interruption cut through. "Your affairs don't concern me. Spare me the theatrics—it's nauseating."

Isabella's face contorted. "How dare you speak to me like that?"

Evelyn stepped into the elevator without another glance.

Adrian stood motionless, his expression unreadable.
