Chapter 201
Evelyn felt Sebastian's smile was strangely familiar, yet she couldn't place it.
She'd known him for years, but this reunion felt different somehow.
"Tristan and Felicia will love their godfather's gifts," Evelyn said with a smile.
Oddly, the hollow feeling in her chest vanished whenever he sat beside her.
This inexplicable sense of comfort puzzled her.
As night deepened, Sebastian walked with her through the neighborhood.
His stories from abroad kept her laughing.
It was nearly midnight when he finally rose to leave.
"I live right across the street. Call me anytime." His shadow stretched long under the streetlamp.
Evelyn's eyes widened. "When did you move here?"
"While you were recovering." His voice softened. "I didn't want to disturb you."
Warmth bloomed in her chest at having an old friend so close.
"Don't tell Scarlett about the children yet," she reminded him.
Sebastian's gaze flickered before he nodded.
He hesitated, then asked quietly, "Is it really over with Adrian?"
Evelyn's lashes fluttered as she looked away.
"That divorce was final long ago." She changed the subject. "It's late—you should rest."
The pain in Sebastian's chest sharpened at her evasiveness.
She clearly hadn't moved on.
"Goodnight," he murmured.
Too preoccupied with thoughts of the wrong man, Evelyn missed the tenderness in his voice.
Only when her silhouette disappeared into the building did Sebastian turn away.
Upstairs, Gabrielle had just finished bathing the twins.
"Ethan was so tired today he started sucking his toes," Gabrielle chuckled.
Evelyn blinked. "Sucking his toes?"
"It's a normal developmental phase," Gabrielle explained. "Felicia's obsessed with her feet now."
Amused, Evelyn watched her daughter.
After Gabrielle left, she took out her phone to document their milestones.
Felicia babbled while clutching Evelyn's hair, showing no signs of sleepiness.
"Time for bed, sweetheart." Evelyn stroked the tiny fingers. "Mommy will come home early tomorrow."
Beside them, Tristan had already drifted into peaceful slumber.
