Chapter 443

"Mmm."

The tension in Evelyn's brow gradually eased. The scene of them sharing dinner was heartwarmingly tender.

Suddenly, Evelyn picked out a piece of fatty meat from her bowl.

Sebastian glanced at it and blurted out, "Evelyn, what's wrong with a little fat? Look how thin you are—a strong breeze could knock you over. This won't make you sick or gain weight. Eat it. Don't waste food."

Evelyn's chopsticks paused.

That tone, those words—they were identical to Alexander's.

Why did she keep having these illusions?

She looked up at Sebastian's profile as he focused on his meal and shook her head slightly.

Nearby, Adrian watched the scene with cold eyes, his knuckles turning white.

She had let Sebastian hold her.

His gaze darkened as he stared at the two laughing together in the dining room.

After dinner, Sebastian efficiently cleared the table and neatly folded the laundry.

"Evelyn, I'll pick you up tomorrow."

She shook her head. "Not yet. Isabella will make a move soon. Keep a close eye on the Lefèvre family. Christian's mother has no real power, and his sister is still too young. Right now, Vincent is in control. I suspect the evidence he has came from Isabella. They must be colluding."

Of course, she hadn't ruled out Adrian either.

Sebastian gently patted her shoulder. "Evelyn, I've already stationed people there. Get some rest. Don't overthink it."

She gave a small nod.

As soon as Sebastian stepped outside, he ran into Adrian, who had been waiting.

The two men locked eyes, tension crackling between them.

"Adrian, you and Isabella gave Vincent that arson footage to pin murder on Evelyn?" Sebastian's voice was icy with lethal intent. "Then I'll make sure you both pay with your lives."

Adrian frowned.

The murderous aura radiating from the other man was palpable.

"This has nothing to do with me. I told you—I'll save my own wife. I don't need your help."

Sebastian laughed, loud and mocking.

"Adrian, stop lying to yourself. I watched Evelyn grow up. I know her better than anyone. Once she decides she's done loving you, she'll never look back."

"Years ago, she married you in secret, forcing everyone to accept it. No one said a word then."

"But after how you've treated her now, you think you can just pick up where you left off? You're delusional."

With Adrian's face drained of color, Sebastian strode away.

Adrian felt as if he'd been plunged into an icy abyss.

He clenched his fists, the reality of Evelyn's resolve and indifference hitting him hard.

Those eyes that had once been filled with love now held nothing but calm detachment when they looked at him.

A wave of panic surged through him.

At the thought of Isabella, a ruthless glint flashed in his eyes.

When he returned to his car, Victor was crouched by the roadside, shoveling noodles into his mouth.

Spotting Adrian, he scrambled to his feet like an overworked employee.

Adrian's voice was frigid. "Release the evidence of Vincent's bribery."

Without another word, he got into the car and dialed Nathan's number.

Victor hastily finished his noodles and rushed off to arrange it.

Meanwhile, at the Langley mansion, Vincent was drinking merrily with Warren.

After several rounds, he staggered back to his room, drunk.

Eleanor was changing into her nightgown, her graceful figure partially visible.

Vincent's interest stirred, and after their intimacy, he fell asleep instantly.

But Eleanor tossed and turned, unable to sleep.

Her thoughts kept returning to the daughter she had lost years ago.

A news alert suddenly popped up on her phone.

When she opened it, her face paled in horror.

She shook her husband violently. "Vincent! Wake up! Something terrible has happened!"
