Chapter 373

Nathan Aldridge's words were clearly meant to sabotage the evening's celebration.

He deliberately pushed Mrs. Lee into the spotlight, making everyone believe the Lee family was being run by the daughter-in-law.

The old patriarch's face darkened with anger, secretly relieved he hadn't partnered with Nathan.

"Mr. Aldridge, our hospitality tonight has been lacking," the patriarch said gravely. "But this is not the occasion for business discussions."

Nathan feigned remorse with a smile. "My apologies for being overeager. Our young mistress's new product is truly remarkable—a game-changer in the market."

Then his tone shifted. "Though I never expected Mrs. Lee would sever ties with Sterling Manor over a friend's petty grudge. Such recklessness is unlike you, sir. The Valentines are one family, the Lees another—"

"Mr. Aldridge!" Mrs. Lee interrupted, her face pale.

This accusation was too heavy for her to bear.

Nearby, Margaret Valentine sensed trouble, her brow furrowing.

Guests whispered among themselves.

"Did the Lees really oppose Sterling Manor? No matter how much the patriarch dotes on his daughter-in-law, he can't gamble with family business."

"It's all because of Mrs. Valentine. Her future daughter-in-law Isabella has issues with Evelyn. This is just settling scores."

"Mrs. Valentine spoils Isabella rotten. Last time she even sent Cassandra to the hospital. Cross anyone but Isabella."

Margaret froze mid-step.

If she admitted targeting Evelyn, it would confirm the rumors.

But staying silent would make Mrs. Lee's position even more precarious.

She was trapped.

"Mr. Aldridge, you misunderstand—" Mrs. Lee attempted to explain.

Nathan abruptly stood. "My gift has been delivered. I won't intrude further."

Mrs. Lee's eyes widened.

"I only have personal grievances with Evelyn."

"Evelyn represents Sterling Manor in negotiations," Nathan said meaningfully. "That makes her under my protection."

Mrs. Lee turned to Evelyn with a sneer. "Word is you've been seducing men everywhere since leaving Valentine Corp—"

"Mrs. Lee." Evelyn's voice cut like ice. "Is befriending the opposite sex seduction now? Where's your proof?"

"I—"

"We're strangers, yet you slander me publicly." Evelyn pulled out her phone. "Shall we let the police investigate who I've supposedly seduced?"

Mrs. Lee flushed with rage. "You backwater tramp dare threaten me with the police?"

The room erupted in gasps.
