Chapter 291
Victor stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, his fingers lightly tapping the glass. "Mr. Valentine, should I investigate who targeted Julian Roscente?"
Adrian Valentine paused briefly while flipping through the documents. "No need."
He closed the folder, a cold glint flashing in his eyes. "Let him find out himself."
Victor wisely fell silent.
He knew exactly how deep the Roscente family's secrets ran. Their patriarch's ruthlessness surpassed even their darkest expectations.
Sebastian Orlando's car glided through the bustling streets.
Evelyn Roland stared out the window at the passing scenery, silent.
At a red light, Sebastian glanced at her. "Evelyn, are you upset that I went after Adrian?"
Her lashes trembled slightly. "Sebastian, I just don't understand."
She turned to face him directly. "Why target him?"
His grip on the steering wheel tightened, shadows flickering in his eyes.
"He hurt you." His voice softened. "I promised Alexander I'd protect you."
Evelyn's fingers dug into her palms.
Sebastian watched her bowed head, his chest tightening. She still cared about that man.
"Evelyn..." He suddenly frowned. "I'm not feeling well."
Her head snapped up. "What's wrong? Why didn't you say something sooner?"
She reached for his forehead, her fingertips meeting scorching heat.
"You're burning up!" She quickly checked his pulse.
Sebastian closed his eyes, savoring the warmth of her touch.
The pulse was weak, his lungs irregular. Evelyn's heart clenched. "Sebastian, you—"
"Aftereffects from the car accident two years ago." He casually withdrew his hand. "It's nothing."
Evelyn remembered Sebastian Cortez mentioning it.
"I'll drive." She unbuckled her seatbelt with finality.
This time, Sebastian didn't protest.
The car pulled smoothly into Regal Heights.
"Sit down first." She helped him into the living room. "I'll get the medicine."
Sebastian leaned back on the sofa, his gaze tender. "No rush. Where are Felicia and Ethan?"
A faint smile touched his lips. "I already miss them after just one day."
Her children were as precious to him as his own.
