Chapter 125
Evelyn Roland never expected to encounter Adrian Valentine here.
She instinctively took a step back, putting distance between them.
Adrian strode into the elevator, his gaze fixed on her.
The image of her focused expression while shooting still lingered in his mind.
"Impressive marksmanship," his voice was low.
Evelyn's head snapped up. "You followed me?"
A cold smirk tugged at Adrian's lips. "Don't flatter yourself, Ms. Roland. I'm here to meet a client."
His eyes flickered to her slightly flushed lips, remembering how they'd tasted beneath his.
Back then, she used to pout and say, "Adrian Valentine, are you part wolf?"
He'd only tease her more mercilessly until her eyes glistened with unshed tears.
"I frequent this shooting range," he said flatly.
Evelyn fell silent, leaning against the elevator wall with closed eyes.
Adrian studied her calm profile, his chest tightening.
Was she thinking about that man again?
"Is Alexander Durand truly so unforgettable?" The bitter words escaped before he could stop them.
Evelyn's eyes flew open, shooting him an icy glare.
The elevator dinged at the first floor. She walked out without a backward glance.
Adrian moved to follow but halted when Sebastian Cortez approached.
Sebastian draped a coat over Evelyn's shoulders with gentle hands. "Blowing off steam again?"
The first genuine smile of the evening touched Evelyn's lips. "Sebastian, what are you doing here?"
"I had a feeling you'd come." He ruffled her hair. "Feeling better?"
Adrian remained in the shadows, watching their intimate exchange.
Sebastian sighed. "Evelyn, if Alexander were still alive—"
"Don't." Evelyn cut him off. "I've accepted reality."
Pain flashed in Sebastian's eyes. "I'll always regret failing to save your parents that night."
Evelyn shook her head and linked arms with him. "Let's go. Scarlett's waiting."
Their figures gradually disappeared into the night.
Adrian stood rooted in place, his fists clenched until his knuckles turned white.
