Chapter 464
Cassandra Valentine screamed in terror as she stumbled backward.
The man's greasy face loomed closer, his breath reeking of alcohol and cigarettes.
"You think you're too good for us?" The thug behind her dug his fingers into her shoulders. "There's no escape now."
Her entire body trembled. "I-I have money... Eight million in my account..."
Jack Lombardi smirked and slapped her across the face.
Darkness flashed before her eyes. A high-pitched ringing filled her ears.
She collapsed to the floor, vision blurring.
"This one's feisty." The man unbuckled his belt with eager hands.
Just as he lunged forward, the door burst open.
Through her daze, Cassandra saw a slender figure standing in the doorway.
Evelyn Roland.
The same woman she had tormented for years.
"Another pretty face?" Jack's eyes lit up with interest.
Cassandra mustered the last of her strength. "Evelyn... help me..."
Evelyn's gaze was icy as she took in the scene.
Though she despised Cassandra, Isabella's methods disgusted her more.
When one of the men reached for her, she drove her knee upward.
"Ahhh!" He crumpled to the ground, clutching himself.
Jack's expression darkened. He seized Cassandra by the throat. "Stay back!"
Evelyn advanced without hesitation.
"You asked for this!" Jack suddenly brandished a switchblade.
The blade glinted in the light.
Evelyn prepared to dodge—only to be pulled into a firm embrace from behind.
The familiar scent of cedarwood made her stiffen.
Adrian Valentine shielded her in his arms, his gaze sharp as steel.
Evelyn scowled up at him. "I didn't need your help."
