Chapter 479

Felicia understood her mother's words immediately and burst into loud, dramatic sobs.

Evelyn Roland: "..."

How could this child cry so much?

If she's like this now, she'll probably cry herself unconscious when she's older.

"Evelyn, how could you bully your own daughter?" Gabrielle Flores said disapprovingly as she walked over and scooped Felicia into her arms.

Evelyn didn't bother explaining. She straightened her collar. "I'm going to the office today."

Gabrielle rocked the crying child gently. "Fine. I'll bring them by for their noon feeding."

"Gabrielle..."

"Evelyn, just one more year. Please?"

Evelyn fell silent. She could never win an argument with her sister.

"Take Felicia for breakfast." Evelyn stroked her daughter's tear-streaked cheek.

She leaned down to kiss her son. "Be good, Tristan. Mommy's going to work."

Tristan kept his head down, his small fingers clutching the hem of her blazer.

Evelyn's heart softened. For a moment, she almost stayed.

After finally soothing her son, Evelyn left with Sophia Blanchet.

Zachary Deross had been waiting by the car.

Once inside, Evelyn said, "To the office."

"Of course." Zachary started the engine.

As Evelyn fastened her seatbelt, her phone rang.

"Yes?"

"Darling, Grandmother collapsed. She's at the hospital now and wants to see you." Adrian Valentine's voice was heavy with exhaustion.

Evelyn instinctively wanted to refuse. But remembering the old woman's kindness, she asked, "Which hospital?"

"Mine. Top floor." His tone softened.

"Understood."

After hanging up, Evelyn changed the destination. "Valentine Medical Center."

Zachary frowned but complied. "Very well."

Thirty minutes later, the car arrived.

Evelyn took the elevator alone.

The doors opened to reveal Adrian waiting in the hallway.

Dressed in a black leather jacket with dark circles under his eyes, he still exuded aristocratic elegance.

Seeing Evelyn in her tailored pink suit—sharp yet refined—he smiled. "Darling."

She ignored the endearment. "Where's Grandmother?"

Her voice was glacial.

Adrian's fingers twitched. "This way."

Beatrice Valentine's room was at the end of the corridor.

The elderly woman smiled weakly when Evelyn entered. "You came, my dear."

Evelyn took her frail hand. "Grandmother, what's wrong?"
