Chapter 489
Sophia Blanchet and Evelyn Roland moved in perfect sync. Within moments, four burly men lay sprawled across the ground.
Evelyn pressed her boot against the leader's chest. "Did Isabella Langley send you?"
The man's lips turned purple as he shook his head violently. "N-no... don't know any Isabella..."
Beads of sweat formed on his forehead. His voice trembled. "Have mercy, ma'am. We were just hired hands. Go after the middleman—he was involved last time too..."
Evelyn's gaze shifted to the shivering man pinned under Sophia's foot.
With a flick of her fingers, she sent a pill sailing into his mouth.
"Poison," Evelyn said with a smirk. "Lie to me, and you'll never touch a woman again."
The man suddenly clutched his groin and howled. "I'll talk! A man paid us! Last time I escaped before the cops came—"
Sirens wailed in the distance.
Evelyn quickly briefed the arriving officers before helping the disoriented Cassandra Valentine to her feet.
"Officers, these are the same men from last time," Cassandra murmured, her cheeks flushed. Her fingers tugged weakly at her collar. "So hot..."
The police waved urgently. "Get her to a hospital!"
Evelyn nodded, supporting Cassandra as they moved toward the exit.
Sophia handed a recording to the authorities before catching up.
Cold wind hit them at the alley's mouth. Evelyn slipped another pill between Cassandra's lips.
"Hold on," she said, restraining Cassandra's wandering hands. "Ten minutes for it to work."
Cassandra clung to her, breath scorching. "Evelyn..."
Sophia returned at a sprint with ice-cold water.
Cassandra gulped it down greedily before suddenly curling into a shivering ball on the pavement.
Evelyn knelt, letting her lean against one knee.
A cold male voice cut through the night behind them. "Since when did you two get so close?"
