Chapter 455

The cautionary tale of Julian Roscente still fresh in her mind, Evelyn refused to put her sister in an awkward position.

Christian Lefèvre broke into a radiant smile. "Alright!"

"Christian! My Christian!" Mrs. Lefèvre stumbled forward and wrapped her arms around her son, weeping uncontrollably.

Her son was alive. Standing right before her eyes.

All these years, she had remained oblivious.

Christian turned pale from the crushing embrace but forced a smile. "Mom, I just woke up. Everything hurts. You're holding me too tight."

Mrs. Lefèvre immediately loosened her grip.

Her heart ached at the sight of his gaunt face.

She turned to Evelyn, eyes brimming with gratitude. "Ms. Roland, thank you for saving my son. I was a fool before, saying all those terrible things—"

Evelyn shook her head faintly. "It's only natural."

"If you hadn't opened my eyes, I would've made an irreparable mistake." Mrs. Lefèvre wiped her tears.

Evelyn remained silent.

After profuse thanks, Mrs. Lefèvre wheeled the chair away.

Gabrielle watched their retreating figures with a pang of loss. "Sis, I complained about taking care of him, but now that he's leaving, I feel reluctant."

Evelyn flicked her forehead. "Three years of caretaking and you grew attached?"

Sunlight illuminated her exquisite features.

Adrian Valentine observed from afar, his heart stirring.

Gabrielle suddenly stamped her foot. "Oh! Sis, wait for me!" She turned and dashed back toward the police station.

The street stood empty, leaving just the two of them.

Adrian stepped forward. "Why didn't you tell me Christian was alive?"

Evelyn turned slightly, studying his haggard profile. Time had carved maturity into his face, but his essence remained unchanged. "Ask Christian. You'll believe his words more."

She turned to leave.

"Wife!" Adrian grabbed her wrist. "I wronged you."

Evelyn's gaze was calm as still water.

"Isabella schemed relentlessly, but you were the blind one. I don't hate you because—" She paused. "Compared to endless forgiveness, indifference is true liberation."

The words surprised even herself.

Why say more? She should've just walked away.

Adrian's heart twisted in agony. Was she so stingy as to withhold even hatred?

He abruptly pulled her into his arms.

Evelyn stiffened, her eyes turning icy.

But then his trembling voice whispered in her ear. "I'm sorry... I blamed you without knowing anything..."

The warmth of his embrace felt achingly familiar.

Her lashes fluttered briefly before she decisively stepped back. "Ignorance is bliss. You live an easy life."
