Chapter 43

"Adrian, be careful." Isabella quickly grabbed a tissue, reaching to wipe the water from his lips.

Adrian instinctively recoiled, but caught Evelyn's mocking gaze and forced himself to stay still.

A faint smirk played on Evelyn's lips, satisfaction flashing in her eyes.

The tables had turned. Finally, Adrian was the one left speechless.

After wiping his mouth, Isabella turned to Evelyn with a triumphant smile. "Evelyn, thank you for your blessings. Once we're married, we'll have children soon. Mrs. Valentine has been longing for grandchildren."

She emphasized her words, hoping to provoke Evelyn.

After all, Mrs. Valentine treated her like a daughter-in-law, while Evelyn was nothing more than a servant in the Valentine household.

Evelyn responded calmly, "Then you'd better have several. The Valentines are in dire need of heirs. With your fertility, Mrs. Valentine will surely treasure you."

Isabella's face stiffened.

How could this woman show no jealousy? Was she implying she was a breeding sow?

Her teeth clenched in anger, but she maintained her composure.

She needed to uncover that secret—fast.

"Let's eat," Vincent interrupted, his gaze lingering thoughtfully on Evelyn.

This girl was too composed, leaving him no opening to exploit.

Dinner ended hastily, and the group moved to the living room.

Evelyn knew the real drama was just beginning.

Sure enough, Vincent slid a photograph toward her.

It was a picture of her and Alexander.

Her pupils contracted, her fingers trembling slightly.

Across from her, Adrian's eyes darkened with murderous fury.

Isabella seized the moment. "Evelyn, who is this? You two look very close."

Evelyn gently traced the man's face in the photo.

Remembering how Adrian had accused her of betrayal because of these pictures, a vengeful impulse surged within her.

She lifted her gaze, meeting Adrian's furious stare, her voice soft but unwavering. "This is the man I love."

Adrian froze as if struck by lightning.

Hearing her admit it aloud felt like his heart was being torn apart.

"Mr. Langley, where did you get this?" Evelyn fought back tears.

She hadn't expected such an unexpected lead tonight.

"Found it in a locked safe while cleaning the old family estate," Vincent lied smoothly. "You were close with this young man?"

Evelyn's stare turned piercing. "He disappeared four years ago. Have you met him, Mr. Langley?"

So Adrian had gotten the photos from Vincent.

Was Alexander's death connected to them?

Alexander, if they really killed you...

I swear, I'll make them pay in blood.

Vincent shook his head. "No, I just thought he might know you, so I brought it back."

In truth, he had ordered Alexander's assassination. But another group had intervened, and the map had gone missing.

Now that Evelyn had resurfaced, she was the most likely person to have seen it.

Evelyn cradled the photo carefully, the young man's smile still radiant. "May I keep this?"
