Chapter 41
Evelyn's eyes gleamed faintly. She wouldn't refuse the olive branch the Langleys had extended. This was the perfect opportunity to get closer to the family.
"Since you insist, Mrs. Langley, I'll be there tonight."
She accepted the invitation. It would allow her to investigate the Langleys further.
And perhaps uncover the truth about her own origins.
"Evelyn, I'm glad you're being reasonable. Dinner starts at six. Don't be late." Eleanor Langley's voice dripped with honeyed sweetness.
Anyone unfamiliar with her true nature would mistake her tone for genuine warmth.
"Understood."
After hanging up, Evelyn turned to Victoria. "Prepare a makeup kit. I'm visiting the Langleys tonight."
Victoria frowned, recalling Eleanor's vicious schemes, but nodded. "Of course."
As Evelyn moved to change, Sophia burst into the room.
"Boss, I've got something interesting."
Sophia eagerly handed over her phone. The video showed the Macmillian family's business deal being sabotaged—with Vincent Langley pulling the strings.
"Serena Macmillian clashed with Isabella over a casting decision. Isabella used Adrian's influence to buy her way into the lead role."
This was the explosive intel Sophia had spent days gathering.
Evelyn's lips curved as she watched the damning footage. If Isabella wanted to play dirty, she'd get a taste of her own medicine.
"Send this to the Macmillians. Let them see how the Langleys operate."
"Also, get ready. You're coming with me to their place tonight."
Sophia blinked. "Why?"
That viper's nest wasn't worth visiting.
Evelyn's crimson lips tilted. "For the show."
Eleanor's sudden invitation definitely had ulterior motives.
Sophia grinned and forwarded the video before preparing for the evening.
At six sharp, Evelyn arrived at the Langley estate.
She instructed Sophia to wait outside and entered alone.
The door opened to reveal Dominic Lombardi, Vincent's right-hand man. The middle-aged man's beady eyes gleamed with false warmth.
"Miss Roland. Long time no see."
Suppressing her disgust, Evelyn smiled coolly. "Likewise, Mr. Lombardi."
To Dominic, she remained the same pushover they could manipulate.
"Come in." He stepped aside.
Evelyn surveyed her surroundings—her third time stepping foot here. The maple leaves in the courtyard had turned blood-red.
Walking down the corridor into the main hall, she froze at an unexpected sight.
Adrian stood beneath the crystal chandelier in a white suit, his handsome face alight with amusement.
"Evelyn?" His brow arched. "What are you doing here?"
