Chapter 341
Evelyn's eyes darkened, her voice hoarse. "What happened?"
"Julian collapsed after taking the medicine you gave him. His mother called the police. They're on their way to the company now."
Evelyn frowned. "The medicine was fine. How could this happen?"
Victoria stamped her foot in frustration, unable to make sense of it.
All evidence pointed to her sister.
"Cooperate with the investigation for now. Zachary and I will find proof."
Evelyn remained calm, a calculating glint flashing in her eyes.
Someone had always wanted Julian dead.
Perhaps it was time to turn the tables.
"Send Gabrielle here. I have arrangements to make. You stay home with the children."
Her steady tone carried an unshakable authority.
Victoria remembered then—her sister always had everything under control.
Nothing ever truly challenged Evelyn except matters of the heart.
Her words were always precise, each syllable weighted with command.
"I'll call Gabrielle now." Victoria turned, her steps already regaining composure.
Evelyn went upstairs to freshen up.
Ten minutes later, she descended dressed impeccably.
She finished breakfast alone before Gabrielle arrived in a rush.
The young woman's furious expression showed she'd seen the online storm.
"Gabrielle, check on Julian at the hospital."
Seeing Evelyn's unflappable demeanor, Gabrielle visibly relaxed.
"Right away."
Evelyn gestured to the table. "Eat first."
Her tranquil presence soothed both sisters.
They sat down to eat.
After giving instructions, Evelyn picked up her bag and headed out.
Zachary waited by the car.
As soon as she entered, he reported, "We found him. He visited the hospital yesterday right after you left."
Evelyn recalled Isabella had been there too.
Every visitor was suspect.
"Investigate Isabella and Cassandra."
Zachary's expression darkened. "Adrian went as well."
Evelyn paused.
Why did his tone sound so bitter?
"Then investigate them all."
Zachary's tense shoulders finally eased. With her approval, he could pursue every lead.
As the car pulled through the gates, Sebastian stepped into their path.
Zachary braked. Sebastian yanked open the door, breathing hard.
His gaze locked onto Evelyn. "I'm coming with you."
She knew what awaited at the company—a swarm of reporters.
Yesterday's rumors had festered. Today they'd brand her a murderer.
Julian's mother's tactics were legendary.
Evelyn smiled faintly. "No need, Sebastian. I can handle this."
Her poise suggested she'd already orchestrated every outcome.
Sebastian insisted, "I brought our best lawyer. We can get you released."
She shook her head. "I need to draw them out. It might be Vincent. Or someone else."
Only by catching the black-clad figure would they unmask the mastermind.
Unless, of course, that person chose to take the fall alone...
