Chapter 332
Evelyn burst out of the hospital room and immediately spotted Adrian standing at the end of the corridor.
"Evelyn." Sebastian pulled her into his arms, his long fingers gently stroking her hair. His Adam's apple bobbed, but no words of comfort came.
"Sebastian, Alex he..." Her voice trembled like a candle flame in the wind.
Sebastian lowered his gaze, avoiding her hopeful eyes.
The silence said it all.
Alexander Durand would never return.
The brother who had protected her since childhood now rested forever beneath those ocean waves.
"I'll always be here." Sebastian tenderly wiped the tears from her cheeks.
For a fleeting moment, Evelyn saw Alexander's shadow in him.
The resemblance was uncanny.
Scarlett shot a cold glance at the woman curled on the floor and signaled Adrian with her eyes. "Take her away."
Adrian immediately stepped forward to coordinate with the police, and soon the woman was escorted out.
Isabella stood in the corner, her nails digging deep into her palms.
Evelyn always had such damned luck.
Even Sebastian was on her side.
Just who were these siblings?
After years of digging, she still couldn't uncover their origins.
Seeing Evelyn unharmed, Cassandra sneered, "Evelyn, aren't you being too cruel? It was just a misunderstanding, yet you're sending her to prison?"
Evelyn smirked. "Seems your eyes aren't the only thing that's defective."
"You—"
"Get lost." Evelyn couldn't be bothered to waste another word.
Isabella stepped in to mediate. "Evelyn, that lady only acted out of confusion—"
"Oh? So acid to the face is just a simple misunderstanding now?" Evelyn arched an eyebrow.
Isabella's face turned ashen.
How she wished that bottle had ruined Evelyn's pretty face.
"Miss Langley," Scarlett mocked, "when you framed Evelyn with your little schemes, did you ever stop to think about your own cruelty?"
Isabella flushed with rage. "The one who isn't loved is the real outsider!"
"Scarlett," Evelyn tugged at her sleeve, "why lower yourself to argue with an animal?"
Scarlett feigned realization. "My apologies, Evelyn. I shouldn't have compared you to a dog."
"Pfft—" Victor couldn't hold back his laughter.
Adrian finally spoke up. "Enough."
His gaze lingered on Evelyn, safely sheltered in Sebastian's arms, before he led Isabella and Cassandra into the auction hall.
Sebastian guided Evelyn to the front row.
As fate would have it, her seat was right beside Adrian's.
Watching her take the neighboring spot, Adrian's lips curved in an almost imperceptible smile.
Only then did Evelyn notice who sat beside her.
She immediately turned to Sebastian. "Let's switch seats."
