Chapter 325
Evelyn gazed into Julian's bloodshot eyes. The restlessness between his brows had faded, replaced by quiet composure.
"I don't know," she said calmly. It wasn't time to reveal the truth yet.
Julian's face turned deathly pale. "Evelyn, you must know something. Are you keeping it from me to protect me?"
Her expression remained cold. "The Roscente family's affairs don't concern me. Focus on recovering. Your eyes need rest."
She turned to leave.
Adrian stepped forward, blocking her path. "Evelyn, how can you be so sure his eyes are difficult to treat?"
A sharp female voice cut through the air. "Hmph!" Mrs. Roscente stood at the doorway, clutching a thermal container, her gaze like daggers. "A country bumpkin dares to treat my son?"
The fifty-year-old woman still carried an air of elegance, but her face twisted with fury.
"The whole internet is talking! Photos from the accident scene prove you're the one who tried to kill him!"
Evelyn's brow furrowed slightly. They'd moved faster than she anticipated.
Adrian's voice turned grave. "Aunt Sophia, if Evelyn hadn't arrived in time, Julian would've—"
"Enough!" Mrs. Roscente snapped. "You divorced her, yet you still defend her? My son almost died!"
Evelyn replied evenly, "If you think I'm the culprit, call the police."
"Evelyn!" Julian suddenly called out.
She turned back.
"I believe you." Julian's vacant eyes stared straight ahead, an eerie smile playing on his lips.
Those three words sent a jolt through Evelyn's heart.
"If not for your shot, I'd be dead from that axe." Julian fumbled out of bed. "Evelyn, you can heal my eyes, can't you?"
She arched a brow. "You truly believe I can?"
Adrian stared at her in shock. At this moment, Evelyn seemed as distant and untouchable as a star.
"Yes!" Julian's voice was resolute.
Mrs. Roscente shrieked, "She's just a saleswoman! Your father already went to fetch Dr. Z!"
A flicker of surprise crossed Evelyn's eyes. After six years, someone still remembered the legend of Dr. Z.
The prodigy who had stunned the medical world at just eighteen.
