Chapter 188

The crystal chandelier cast dazzling reflections across the luxurious private dining room.

Waiters brought in exquisite dishes one after another.

Cassandra Valentine entered gracefully in her high heels.

She had deliberately chosen a champagne-colored dress that made her skin glow like snow.

"Big brother, Julian, Vincent, it's been a while." She greeted them with a radiant smile.

Adrian Valentine frowned slightly. "Not busy with the company anymore?"

"Even busy people need to come home sometimes." Cassandra took a seat beside him. "Do you really dislike seeing me this much?"

"Your comings and goings mean nothing to me." Adrian's voice was icy.

Cassandra's smile froze.

"You've always treated me this way since we were kids." She bit her lip. "What did I ever do wrong?"

"Does hatred need a reason?" Adrian picked up his wine glass.

Vincent Ashcroft smoothly intervened. "Don't take it to heart, Cass. That's just how your brother is."

Isabella Langley gently tugged Adrian's sleeve. "Adrian, she's so lovely."

Adrian abruptly shook her off.

Isabella stumbled back half a step in shock.

"I'm sorry..." Her voice trembled.

Vincent's expression darkened. "Adrian, this dinner is for me."

Adrian swept a cold gaze across the table. "With her here, this meal is ruined."

He stood up, knocking over his wine glass.

Red wine spread like a bloodstain across the white tablecloth.

Cassandra clenched her fists, nails digging deep into her palms.

Julian Roscente silently observed everything without comment.

"I'll treat you alone tomorrow." Adrian said to Vincent before striding out without a backward glance.

The door slammed shut behind him.

Isabella forced a smile to comfort Cassandra. "He's just harsh with his words but soft in his—"

"Don't bother, Isabella." Cassandra gave a bitter laugh. "Only Gregory ever treated me well."

She turned to Vincent. "I'm sorry for ruining your welcome dinner."

Vincent spoke gently. "Don't say that. I'll talk to Adrian."

"Please don't." Cassandra shook her head. "Your interference will only make things worse."

She raised her glass toward Julian. "Let's enjoy this rare gathering. Dinner first."

Crystal glasses clinked with a clear, bright sound.

Everyone wore strained smiles.
