Chapter 182

Evelyn raised an eyebrow at Scarlett, noticing her red-rimmed eyes. The memory of that drunken night flashed through her mind, tightening her chest.

"Scarlett, he won't be coming back this year."

She studied Scarlett's reaction carefully.

"Oh." Scarlett lowered her head, her voice muffled.

That bastard. He actually isn't coming back.

"Evelyn, I want to sing. Acting for so long... I can't tell reality from fiction anymore. I need a change."

Evelyn watched her intently. It was natural for feelings to develop between her brother and Scarlett after frequent contact.

Five years away. Four years was enough to change everything.

Matters of the heart weren't something outsiders could interfere with.

"Scarlett, do whatever you want. If singing is what you desire, Nathan will arrange it. The company will fully support you."

Scarlett was brilliant—her talent alone had secured her place in the entertainment industry.

"Mhm. Evelyn, no work talk today. Have dinner with me tonight."

She gnawed on a chicken claw, completely disregarding her A-list actress image.

She'd nearly developed an eating disorder from extreme dieting for a role. After a grueling year of filming, she'd been craving this for ages.

Evelyn blinked. "You're eating so much now. Will you even have room for dinner?"

"Of course. Come shopping with me later. What have you been up to? You never have time for me anymore."

Scarlett finished the chicken claw and reached for a slice of cake.

She was already wealthy beyond measure, yet she still pushed herself so hard.

"Working on the cosmetics line. The moisturizer I sent you last year was my own formula. I'm planning mass production and patent applications."

"Evelyn, that stuff is amazing! Look how soft and smooth my skin is." Scarlett stroked her cheek with a silly, self-satisfied grin.

Evelyn laughed. "You..."

"By the way, about last night's scandal... Don't you have anything to say? Why did Adrian hold your hand?"

That was the real reason she'd asked to meet today. Evelyn had changed so much in these years apart.

"Evelyn, I know about Alexander's death—"

"Scarlett!" Evelyn cut her off sharply, pain flashing in her eyes.

Scarlett's expression softened with sympathy.

"Okay, okay, I won't bring it up. Then tell me—what's going on between you and Adrian? Why did he pull you like that?"

Evelyn stayed silent.

"Is it that hard to answer?" Scarlett tilted her head.

Something was off. The moment Adrian was mentioned, Evelyn's entire demeanor shifted.

"Don't tell me he's fallen for our Evelyn?"

Evelyn scoffed. "Why would he ever fall for me? There was a misunderstanding between us. It's been resolved."

"Then it must be Isabella stirring trouble. Adrian's business has thrived these past two years—how could he possibly be interested in that scheming hypocrite?"

"Even I can't stand Isabella's antics in the industry."

Evelyn's fingers trembled slightly. She lowered her gaze to hide her emotions. "Love blinds people. Even the worst person becomes perfect in their lover's eyes."

Scarlett set down the cake, finally full.

"What do you mean?" she asked bluntly.

Evelyn sighed. "Love sees no faults."

Scarlett burst out laughing. "Alright, fine. But I didn't invite you to dinner just for fun."

Evelyn perked up. "What's the real reason?"
