Chapter 168
Adrian Valentine saw right through Julian Roscente's intentions the moment he spoke.
"Since when do you meddle in other people's affairs?" Adrian shot him a dangerous sidelong glance.
Julian shrugged and tactfully changed the subject. "Vincent Ashcroft is returning tomorrow. How about a reunion?"
At the mention of Vincent's name, Adrian's expression shifted slightly. This was the brother-in-arms who had gone abroad to handle a corporate crisis.
"Tomorrow night," Adrian replied curtly.
As Julian walked away, Isabella Langley studied his retreating figure with narrowed eyes.
"Adrian, do you think Julian is really interested in Evelyn?" she asked with feigned innocence. "He's changed so much this past year."
Adrian watched Julian disappear into the distance, his gaze turning icy. He couldn't shake the feeling that his old friend was drifting further away.
Isabella's heart twisted at his silence. Adrian's eyes never held the same fiery intensity for her as they did for Evelyn.
The thought of Julian pursuing Evelyn ignited a dark spark in her eyes.
What's life without a little competition?
Evelyn, I'll destroy everything you desire.
Everything you possess will be mine.
She would make Evelyn experience the most excruciating betrayal imaginable.
After ending the call with Adrian, Isabella dialed Cassandra Valentine's number.
"Isabella!" Cassandra's cheerful voice rang out. "What goodies did you bring me this time?"
"A limited edition white handbag. When are you coming back?" Isabella's tone was affectionate.
Over the past year, she had showered Cassandra and her mother with gifts, securing their unwavering loyalty.
"Tomorrow!" Cassandra exclaimed excitedly.
"Oh," Isabella added casually, "I ran into Evelyn at the club tonight. Julian mentioned wanting to pursue her."
"That bitch doesn't deserve him!" Cassandra exploded. "I'll teach her a lesson!"
Isabella smiled in satisfaction. "Vincent's welcome banquet is at the Imperial Palace Hotel tomorrow night. A rare opportunity."
Cassandra immediately caught her meaning. "Don't worry, Isabella. I know exactly what to do. I've worked so hard all these years to be worthy of Julian."
Isabella pretended to dissuade her. "Don't do anything reckless. I'd hate to see you get hurt."
As she hung up, a triumphant smirk curved her lips. The lovesick fool had taken the bait perfectly.
