Chapter 122
Evelyn's fingers trembled slightly. The words "violet diamond" pierced her heart like a blade. Only Alexander Durand had known about her love for purple diamonds.
Sebastian Cortez smiled faintly. "It was meant as a birthday gift for the young miss. The violet diamond has been set into a necklace." His gaze flickered toward Evelyn, concern flashing in his eyes.
She stood abruptly and rushed out the door.
Sebastian didn't stop her. He knew this girl needed moments alone. Alexander had always treated her with unparalleled kindness. With a subtle gesture, he signaled four bodyguards to follow discreetly.
The night wind struck her face as tears streamed down her cheeks.
Before the accident, Alexander had mentioned going somewhere, promising a surprise in a month. But he broke that promise, never returning. The sunny boy who grew up with her vanished forever one morning five years ago.
"Alex, you didn't break your word..." She choked out the words, collapsing to her knees on the roadside. Even without remains, she stubbornly believed he was still alive.
"Where are you?" She looked up at the sky, her tears glinting coldly under the moonlight.
Adrian Valentine watched from the shadows, his eyes fixed on that solitary figure. She was breathtakingly beautiful—and utterly shattered.
"Evelyn." Margaret Valentine's heels clicked sharply as she appeared without warning.
Evelyn wiped her tears, her expression turning icy. "What do you want?"
Margaret stood regal in a crimson cheongsam, jewels glittering. She maintained her usual condescending air. "You've hidden Alexander's secret well."
The secret of Eastalia's diamond mines could propel any jeweler to unimaginable heights. And the only person who knew the location of those veins was the woman before her.
Evelyn scoffed. "When have you ever shown me kindness? Weren't you the one reminding me daily—except during acupuncture sessions—that I'd be thrown out eventually?" Her nails dug into her palms. "I was greedy, foolishly thinking I could hold onto Adrian."
A man who abandoned her over a single photograph wasn't worth her tears.
