Chapter 11
Evelyn thought her grandfather's imagination was running wild.
That had merely been an accident months ago.
How could it possibly have gotten her pregnant?
The corners of her lips curled into a meaningful smile.
"Grandfather, he's not the father. But Sterling Manor will soon have an heir. You should be happy."
The old man snorted. "To be worthy of inheriting Sterling Manor, they'd need at least half your talent."
Evelyn chuckled. "Any child of mine will surpass me."
"If that's true, this old man can close his eyes in peace."
He said it half-jokingly.
Evelyn's expression darkened instantly. "If you keep talking like that, I won't speak to you for a year."
In this world, her grandfather was her only remaining family.
"Silly girl, at my age, it's inevitable. You've rested long enough—return to the company tomorrow."
Evelyn had already planned to.
There were still scum to deal with. The truth about her origins was known only to the Langleys.
And her feud with Isabella needed to be settled.
"Don't worry, Grandfather. The core technology for NovaCore is perfected. I'll handle everything."
His tone turned grave. "Your return will make many people nervous. Be careful."
She understood perfectly. During her four-year absence, she hadn't been idle.
"Don't worry. I'll outlive every last one of them."
"You!" The old man burst into laughter.
After hanging up, Evelyn drove back to Regal Heights.
Regal Heights stood opposite Sterling Manor—both were her properties.
Passing a shopping district, she decided to pick up some necessities.
Her wardrobe was filled with outdated styles from four years ago. Maternity clothes were also needed.
The baby was already four months along. It was time for a checkup.
Entering her brand's flagship store, the manager Sophia Blanchet gaped in shock.
"B-Boss?"
Evelyn lazily arched a brow. "Long time no see."
Sophia's eyes reddened. "Three years! I thought you'd never come back!"
She rushed forward and hugged Evelyn tightly.
"Just went away to train." Evelyn patted her back lightly. "But I'm back now."
"You're staying, right?" Sophia stared at her anxiously.
Amused by her pitiful expression, Evelyn smiled. "I'm staying. I'll officially resume my position in a few days."
"Thank goodness!" Sophia wiped her tears. "I'll pack all the new arrivals for you."
She couldn't resist complaining. "This place is too small. There's no room to work properly."
Evelyn understood immediately. "I'll send for you in three days. You and Zachary will work directly under me. Victoria's team will provide covert security."
Sophia nodded excitedly. Finally, she could truly shine.
Just then, a sharp female voice cut through the air from the entrance.
"Miss Langley, what an unpleasant surprise."
