Chapter 73

Sophia's fingers traced the flat plane of her abdomen, a soft smile curving her lips.

"My college schedule isn't heavy. I'm thinking of finding a part-time job." She glanced up at Vivian. "This stipend won't be enough to raise a child."

"Don't worry!" Vivian thumped her chest. "Your godmother's got you!"

She knew Sophia too well. This stubborn girl would never sit around waiting for handouts.

"Any ideas what you want to do?" Vivian frowned. "You can't overexert yourself now."

"What else am I qualified for besides design?" Sophia chuckled. "I could take on drafting projects. Work from home."

The idea had lingered in her mind for two days.

A way to earn money without letting her skills rust.

"I'll keep an eye out for opportunities," Vivian promised immediately.

After dinner, Vivian insisted on staying overnight. As the sound of running water came from the bathroom, Sophia picked up her phone and posted a status update.

The response came faster than expected.

Theodore Orlando called directly. "Looking for work?" Concern colored her professor's voice.

"Yes, funds are tight," Sophia admitted quietly.

"Are you in trouble?" Theodore's tone sharpened.

"I just want to stay productive." She didn't want her mentor worrying.

A hearty laugh came through the receiver. "That's the spirit of youth!"

"Luming Studio happens to be short-handed," Theodore continued smoothly. "Interested? Market rate compensation."

Sophia's breath caught.

Luming Architectural Studio. The industry benchmark.

"You and Luming...?"

"Co-founded it with friends." Theodore's voice held quiet pride. "When I convinced you to stay at Qing University, I intended to guide you into the field gradually."

Sophia's pulse quickened.

"But I..." She bit her lip. "I have no portfolio..."

"I've seen your thesis project." Theodore's tone brooked no argument. "More than qualified."

Water droplets slid from her hair. Sophia's grip tightened around the phone.
