Chapter 245

The wail of police sirens pierced the sky, growing louder as they approached.

Screeching tires marked the arrival of the patrol cars at the accident scene.

Felix Roland jumped out of his vehicle, wincing at the sight of his mangled Ferrari. He hurried over to the pair, his gaze lingering on Ethan Roscente's bloodied forehead. "Are you two okay?"

"I'm fine," Sophia Lowell replied tightly. "He hit his head."

Felix raised a brow, leaning in with mock concern. "Well, well. Looks like someone's on the fast track to becoming a vegetable."

Ethan shot him a glare sharp enough to cut glass.

Felix recoiled, satisfied the bastard was still alive.

The officers began taking statements.

Sophia recounted the incident in detail. When she mentioned Ethan intercepting a speeding motorcycle, everyone gasped.

"Mr. Roscente," Felix whistled, "got a death wish or something?"

"Shut up," Ethan's voice could freeze hell.

Sophia pressed a tissue to his wound, shooting Felix a glare. "He's bleeding heavily, Felix."

Felix clamped his mouth shut.

The lead officer looked grim. "Initial findings show the Ferrari absorbed most of the impact. The motorcyclist died instantly—broken neck."

"Dead?" Ethan's brow furrowed.

"The body's in bad shape," the cop added.

Felix let out a low whistle. "And you walked away? Hades must be blind today."

"I need to see it." Ethan stood, turning to Sophia. "Stay here."

She shook her head stubbornly. "He came for me."

"It's going to be gruesome."

"I don't care."

Ethan exhaled sharply and scooped her into his arms. "Then stop pretending you're fine."

The motorcycle wreckage lay scattered across the asphalt, the rider's corpse twisted at unnatural angles. Blood pooled dark against the road. When the officer removed the helmet, the face beneath was unfamiliar.

"I don't know him," Sophia said through gritted teeth, fighting nausea.

The police assured a full investigation.

Ethan gave Felix a look. The man immediately stepped forward to handle the authorities.

"To the hospital," Ethan told the woman in his arms.

Sophia opened her mouth to protest, but he carried her straight into the waiting ambulance.

At the ER, Ethan addressed the approaching doctor. "Check her first."

Sophia vaulted off the gurney and shoved Ethan onto the examination table instead. "Doctor, scan his brain. See if the crash damaged anything."

Ethan: "..."
