Chapter 143

"Dad, I'm sorry..."

Vivian Valdemar's soft voice drifted from the hospital room. Sophia Lowell stood outside the door, her lips curling into an unconscious smile. She quietly stepped back, leaving the space for the father and daughter.

Sophia had just settled onto the hallway bench when a shadow loomed over her.

"Sophia!"

Ethan Roscente's voice was icy. He seized her wrist with enough force to make her wince.

"Pregnant?" His words were gritted out. "You've got some nerve."

Sophia's heart skipped. She lifted her gaze to meet his stormy eyes. Those usually charming peach-blossom eyes now burned with fury, his jaw clenched tight.

"What pregnancy?" She forced calm into her voice.

Ethan sneered and flung a medical report at her. The paper grazed her cheek before fluttering to the ground.

"Obstetrics?" He leaned in, his voice dangerously low. "Didn't I tell you you're unworthy of carrying my child?"

Her fingers turned cold. Bending down, she picked up the report and exhaled in relief when she saw the name.

"This belongs to my senior." She slapped the paper against Ethan's chest. "What's wrong with you?"

He yanked her toward the elevators.

"Tests." His tone was unyielding. "Now."

"Let go!" Sophia struggled, colliding with Vivian who had just stepped out of the room.

"Sophie?" Vivian frowned, immediately shielding her. "Sir, no disturbances allowed in the hospital."

Ethan's eyes narrowed. He recognized this pregnant woman—the one Sebastian Valdemar had accompanied that day.

"Pathetic," he mocked, glancing at Sophia. "Even sucking up to Sebastian's wife for his sake?"

Sophia laughed in disbelief.

"This is my senior's younger sister!" She wrenched her wrist free. "Donate your eyes if you're not using them."

The air froze. Ethan stared at Vivian's face, his expression stiffening.

Vivian blinked, then suddenly linked arms with Sophia. "Darling, who's this lunatic?"

Watching Ethan's livid face, Sophia felt an unexpected surge of satisfaction.
