Chapter 349

Ethan Roscente frowned deeply. "I stood up for you, and this is how you repay me?"

His voice carried a hint of hurt.

Sophia Lowell curled her lips into a cold smile. "Did I ask for your help?"

She shook off his grip. "All I want is to work in peace. I don’t want anything to do with the Roscentes."

With her internship ending soon, his interference would only bring chaos.

Ethan's expression darkened. "Is being associated with me that unbearable?"

"Yes." Sophia met his gaze directly. "The Roscentes are out of my league."

She turned to leave.

Ethan grabbed her wrist. "Don’t take my grandfather’s words to heart."

"I think he was right." She yanked her hand free. "You crossed a line just now."

His eyes narrowed.

"For you, it’s just a casual remark." Her voice turned icy. "But have you considered the consequences?"

She pointed toward the dean’s office. "You called me your niece, yet you manhandled me. What will they think when they realize the truth?"

Ethan’s face stiffened.

"A slut seducing her uncle?" Sophia sneered. "Or a homewrecker breaking up an engagement?"

She enunciated each word. "Rumors can destroy lives."

His Adam’s apple bobbed. "I’ll handle it."

"How?" She gave him a mocking look. "Can you silence every gossip?"

Her gaze shifted to Jason Roscente cowering in the corner. "One more tip-off, and Vivian Ashcroft will never speak to you again."

Jason wailed, "That’s not fair—"

Sophia strode away without looking back.

Ethan blocked her path again. "We need to talk."

"Not interested." She shoved past him and left.
