Chapter 375

The air of Los Angeles carried an unfamiliar perfume. Shen Man stood at the hotel entrance, her stilettos clicking sharply against the marble floor. No one here knew she had once been married to Ethan Roscente.

Seattle and Los Angeles were worlds apart, their currency exchange rates differing by half. Who would remember a bankrupt heiress from the Shen family?

As she surveyed her surroundings, Liam Sterling abruptly extended his arm. Shen Man arched a brow. "Meaning?"

"Basic etiquette for an escort."

"So?"

Liam withdrew his arm with a cold smirk. "How ungrateful."

Seeing him turn to leave, Shen Man quickly linked her arm through his, her lips curving into a flawless smile. "Don't be hasty, Mr. Sterling. Just a joke. Tonight, I won't leave your side."

"My patience has limits." Liam kept his gaze forward. "Play games again, and you'll spend the night in the freezing ocean breeze."

Her smile twitched.

She'd never admit she'd been distracted.

At the revolving door, Victor Shu hurried over. "Mr. Sterling, this is Ethan Roscente, CEO of Roscente Group."

Their eyes locked. Ethan stood in a black suit, his features sharper than she remembered. His gaze flickered to their linked arms before he sneered. "So vanishing meant climbing to higher branches."

Shen Man's fingers tightened imperceptibly, her smile unwavering. "Where's your companion today, Mr. Roscente? Did Ms. Lowell not meet your standards?"

Ethan turned to Liam. "A word of advice—stay away from women like her. When it comes to chasing profit, no one outdoes her."

"Funny." Liam suddenly gripped Shen Man's hand. "I enjoy taming wild horses."

She couldn't pull free. In front of everyone, she couldn't embarrass Liam.

Ethan scoffed. "The last man who said that—Simon Xiao—is still locked up in the Xiao family estate. Rumor has it he hasn't even cleaned up the mess from being dumped at his own engagement party."

Shen Man's pupils constricted.

Simon had been in Los Angeles just last night!

Ethan adjusted his cufflinks. "Excuse me. I look forward to our discussion later."

Once his figure disappeared down the hall, Liam squeezed her hand. "Heartbroken?"

"For whom?"

"That imprisoned fiancé of yours." Liam guided her toward the banquet hall. "Judging by your expression, are you having second thoughts?"

Shen Man smirked. "What kind of man can't even protect his woman? Rest assured, Mr. Sterling, I know better than anyone that relying on others is futile."

"Good."
