Chapter 476

Sophia had just settled into her seat when she looked up and met Ethan Roscente's intense gaze.

"You followed me?" she whispered.

Ethan braced one hand on the tray table in front of her and planted the other on the seatback, effectively boxing her in.

"Should I have let you run off with some stranger?" He leaned closer, his breath warm against her ear. "I'd never find your body."

Sophia choked on her retort.

Was he always this insufferable?

As the train pulled out of the station, the cabin quieted. She glanced around and realized Ethan was still standing.

"No seat?"

"Standing ticket."

The CEO of Roscente Group with a standing ticket. Sophia scooted over, making room for him beside her.

A college-aged boy in the window seat had been staring at her since she sat down. Ethan's eyes turned icy. Suddenly, he yanked Sophia up by the waist.

"What are you—"

Before she could protest, he deposited her onto his lap. His muscular arms encircled her as he murmured, "More comfortable this way."

Passengers nearby turned to stare. Sophia's ears burned.

"Put me down!" She squirmed, keeping her voice low.

"Legally married. No one cares." Ethan didn't budge.

"I have professional dignity!"

"The Victorian era called. They want their prudery back." He smirked.

"Fine. You sit. I'll stand."

"That's poor manners."

"Since when do you care about manners?"

"There's a difference between choosing to be shameless and being forced into it." Ethan said it with complete seriousness.

A few passengers chuckled. Sophia wished the seat would swallow her whole.

The elderly woman beside them smiled. "Dear, your husband just wants an excuse to hold you." She elbowed her own husband. "Learn something, old man."

The husband hastily offered a bag of chips. "Here, your favorite cucumber flavor."

Ethan seized the moment to whisper, "That'll be us in fifty years."

"Dream on." Sophia elbowed him hard.

An hour later, the train reached Seattle. Sophia bolted for the exit, but Ethan caught her wrist.

"I'll be late!" She stamped her foot.

Ethan towed her toward the station exit. "Keep up if you want to be on time."

"You're taking me to campus?" Sophia hurried to match his stride.
