Chapter 392
"If he's insane, send him to the psychiatric hospital." Ethan Roscente's voice was icy. "Assign him a 'thoughtful' caretaker."
Zachary Evans understood immediately.
A psychiatric hospital was far more terrifying than prison.
There were no laws there. No dignity. Only endless torment and despair.
"What about Isabella Valentine?" Zachary asked.
Ethan gazed out the window, his eyes dark. "She still has her uses. We can't touch her yet. But anyone who dares hurt what's mine will pay."
Late at night, Isabella was jolted awake by a shrill phone ring.
Annoyed, she grabbed her phone and saw her agent Jessica Piente's name. Suppressing her irritation, she snapped, "Calling in the middle of the night like it's an emergency?"
"Zoe's been in a car accident! She's in critical condition!" Jessica's voice was urgent.
Isabella examined her freshly manicured nails, indifferent. "So what? Why the fuss?"
On the other end, Jessica frowned and glanced toward the operating room. She lowered her voice. "Why aren't you shocked? Did you know about this?"
Of course she wasn't shocked.
She had orchestrated the accident herself.
That assistant knew too many of her secrets. How could she let her live?
She'd been waiting all night for news of Sophia Lowell's death, but there was none. Ethan's room had been empty—probably off chasing that bitch.
Sacrificing her assistant was the only way to protect herself.
"That useless girl disappeared all night. Hearing about her accident is just satisfying." Isabella fabricated an excuse.
Jessica sighed in relief. "As long as you're not involved. The crash was severe—she might not make it. Return to New York first thing tomorrow. Don't linger here and cause trouble. I'll handle Zoe's family with some compensation."
Isabella hung up and knocked on Ethan's door again.
Still no answer.
Furious, she dialed his number.
The call rang endlessly.
"That bitch!" she cursed through gritted teeth, immediately ordering her bodyguards to investigate Sophia's whereabouts.
Ethan saw the caller ID but ignored it.
Sophia was burning up with fever.
Her temperature had spiked to 102°F. Her body was scorching, yet she shivered violently. Ethan tried to coax her into taking medicine, but she refused.
"Bitter..." she mumbled deliriously, spitting out the pills again and again.
