Chapter 499

Sophia curled up in the passenger seat, her slender fingers pressing desperately against her abdomen.

Her lips had lost all color, turning ghostly pale. Beads of cold sweat dotted her forehead.

Ethan's grip on the steering wheel turned his knuckles white as he floored the accelerator.

"Hold on just a little longer. We're almost at the hospital."

A black sedan suddenly swerved around the corner, blocking the road.

The screech of brakes tore through the night.

The car door was yanked open violently. Ethan stood silhouetted against the light, his presence radiating terrifying intensity.

"Get out."

His voice was ice-cold.

Sophia shuddered, her nails digging deep into her palms.

"Don't be afraid," Sebastian murmured under his breath. "I'll ram through them."

She shook her head weakly and pushed the door open with trembling hands.

Ethan seized her chin, his grip crushing.

"Having fun?" Rage simmered in his eyes. "Teaming up with your old flame to make a fool of me?"

The pain left her speechless. Darkness flickered at the edges of her vision.

Sebastian lunged forward and grabbed Ethan's wrist. "I was the one who took her—"

"Shut up!" Ethan flung him aside effortlessly and scooped Sophia into his arms. "We'll settle this later."

The engine roared like a beast.

Sophia lay curled on the seat, her back drenched in sweat.

"It hurts..."

Her voice was barely a whisper as her fingers clutched at Ethan's sleeve.

"Cut the act," he sneered. "You think I'll fall for the same trick twice?"

The car jerked violently.

Sophia suddenly doubled over with a whimper.

"The hospital... please..."

Ethan glanced at her ashen face. His chest tightened inexplicably.

The brakes screeched again.

"What the hell are you—"

His words died in his throat.

His pupils contracted sharply, locked onto the bloodstain spreading across her skirt.

"This is..."

Sophia's hands trembled against his collar. "The baby... our baby..."

Tears mixed with sweat streamed down her face. "When I fell earlier..."

Ethan's blood turned to ice.

A deafening buzz filled his ears, as if a swarm of bees had erupted inside his skull.

"What... did you say?"
