Chapter 455
Isabella Valentine's face turned deathly pale in an instant.
Jessica smirked disdainfully and strode away in her stilettos.
How dare this nameless woman put on airs in front of her?
Thud!
The thermos crashed onto the floor, splattering soup everywhere.
Isabella dug her nails deep into her palms and let out a hysterical scream. "Sophia Lowell! I hope you die a horrible death!"
The receptionist rolled her eyes discreetly.
This spoiled heiress must be out of her mind.
"Delete the surveillance footage now!" Isabella shot a venomous glare at the bodyguard before storming out of the lobby.
Inside the car, Sophia stole a glance at the man beside her.
Ethan Roscente remained engrossed in his documents, not even sparing her a glance.
Images from that night flashed through her mind, making her chest tighten. She turned away to stare out the window.
The driver peeked at the rearview mirror.
Though less than half a meter apart, an invisible wall seemed to separate them.
As the partition slowly rose, Sophia's breathing grew uneven.
In the confined space, Ethan's presence became overwhelming.
The edges of the documents crumpled under his grip.
Out of the corner of his eye, he studied Sophia's profile. The peach-toned lip gloss made her skin glow like snow.
Three days.
He'd waited until dawn for a text that never came.
Now she was right beside him, yet further away than ever.
When the car hit a speed bump, Sophia's head lightly bumped against the window.
Exhaustion weighed her down.
Back-to-back exam invigilations had drained her. Without realizing, she drifted off, her head tilting sideways.
Ethan carefully cradled her cheek.
As her warm breath brushed against his shirt, his Adam's apple bobbed. Gently, he pulled her onto his lap.
His thumb traced her cool fingertips before he pressed a kiss to her engagement ring.
"Drive slower," he murmured to the driver, wrapping his suit jacket around her.
In her sleep, Sophia instinctively nestled closer to the warmth. Her hair tickled his wrist like a whisper.
