Chapter 440
Mr. Xavier pulled Ethan aside and whispered, "Ethan has never been good with words since childhood. The fact that he married you and wants children proves how much he cares. He's just unsure about fatherhood and speaks without thinking. Don't take it to heart."
Sophia smirked inwardly.
Care? This was nothing but a transaction.
Yet the charade must continue.
She nodded obediently. "I understand."
"That's my girl." Mr. Xavier patted her shoulder approvingly before glaring at Ethan. "Take your wife upstairs already! If I see her cry again, I'll break your legs!"
Without hesitation, Ethan swept Sophia into his arms. "I'm sorry, darling. Let's talk in our room."
Sophia stiffened.
The endearment made her skin crawl.
Catching Mr. Xavier's knowing wink, she realized—the old man must have coached him again.
As Ethan reached the stairs, Mr. Xavier suddenly called out, "Wait! Sophia, be honest with me—is the boy impotent? Don't be shy! I'm a doctor. If there's an issue, I'll prescribe something immediately!"
Sophia buried her face against Ethan's shoulder, trembling slightly.
Ethan narrowed his eyes. "Your concern is unnecessary. Seven times a night, two hours each—more than adequate."
"Rubbish!" Mr. Xavier scoffed. "Then why no pregnancy?"
"I've been considerate of her youth. Otherwise, we'd have twins by now."
"Hmph. I'd better not catch you sneaking to me for Viagra!"
"Never!" Ethan glanced down at the woman in his arms. "Isn't that right, sweetheart?"
Sophia remained a silent ostrich.
With a cold snort, Ethan carried her upstairs.
The moment the door closed, Sophia collapsed onto the bed in laughter.
"Hahaha... I can't... Mr. Xavier actually thinks you're impotent..."
"So the mighty Ethan Roscente is seen as weak by his mentor?"
"Oh God, my stomach hurts..."
Tears streamed down her face, all pretense of distress gone.
Ethan loomed over the bed, his gaze darkening. "Amusing?"
"Hilarious!" Sophia wiped her eyes. "Especially when you claimed seven times—ah!"
Before she could finish, Ethan pinned her down.
He easily dragged her beneath him with one hand around her ankle.
"Sophia," he warned dangerously, "you're playing with fire."
