Chapter 189

"Mm, I won't touch you." His voice was low, eyes closed.

Sophia scoffed. "Then what are you doing now? Lying naked in my bed—expecting me to be your secret lover? Forget it!"

As if undressing meant nothing.

This man couldn't be trusted.

Her body trembled with anger when his eyes suddenly opened, pulling her closer. Warm lips brushed the soft skin of her neck, sucking gently.

"Ah—" A shiver ran down her spine.

"Talk too much, and this is what you get."

She gritted her teeth. "I didn't—"

"Then be quiet." His voice was rough. "I'll leave after resting."

She'd be a fool to believe him.

Sophia struggled to sit up. "Get out. I don't sleep with dogs."

His grip tightened. "Keep moving, and neither of us sleeps tonight."

She froze instantly.

"Good. Stay still." His arms locked around her.

She stiffened like wood, afraid to provoke him.

His breathing steadied. Listening to his heartbeat, her eyelids grew heavy.

Just as she drifted off, a whisper came from behind. "Sophia... I'm sorry."

Her eyes snapped open. "Why... are you apologizing?"

"You're afraid of the dark because of me."

Her body tensed. He knew?

Of course. For Ethan Roscente, digging up her past was child's play.

"I won't forgive you." Her voice was ice.

Those days of darkness were her eternal nightmare.

"I don't expect forgiveness." His tone was somber. "But an apology was due."

She laughed coldly. "If you were truly sorry, you wouldn't keep bothering me after we ended things."

"So you despise me that much?" His gaze burned.

She hesitated. It wasn't him she hated—but the man bound by an engagement.

"Yes. Completely." Her words were final.

His arm around her waist tightened. "Hate me all you want. You owe me this."

"Owe you what? You—"

"Sophia?" Emily's voice called from outside. "Who are you talking to?"

The doorknob turned.

Panicked, she shoved him. "Ethan!"

His hand clamped over her mouth.

Click.

The lights went out.

Darkness swallowed the room.
