Chapter 110

"Rumor has it he owed money to the factory owner, and they sent people for revenge."

"Revenge?" Her lashes fluttered slightly, a flicker of doubt in her eyes. "It's just debt collection. Why take a life?"

"The owner staked everything he had. Probably had no way out."

Sophia Lowell felt there was more to the story. A faint crease appeared between her brows.

"This has nothing to do with you. Don't overthink it."

A gentle voice came from behind.

She turned to see Sebastian Valdemar approaching in a light blue suit.

The man met her surprised gaze, the corners of his eyes curving slightly.

"Mr. Valdemar." She composed herself and stood to greet him.

"No need to be so formal." His smile was warm. "Since you're my father's prized student, you can call me 'senior.'"

Sophia obliged. "Senior."

"Junior." He responded with amusement.

Vivian Ashcroft's eyes darted between them. Spotting the queue number in Sebastian's hand, she eagerly tugged Sophia's sleeve. "Professor Valdemar hasn't eaten yet, right? Join us!"

Sophia caught the hint. Remembering the favors she owed him, she extended the invitation. "You've helped me so much, Senior. It's only right I treat you to a meal."

Sebastian had originally planned to meet a friend, but they'd canceled last minute. Just as he was about to leave, he spotted Sophia and found himself walking over.

"Then I'll gladly accept," he replied softly.

Vivian immediately scooted closer to Sophia, leaving the seat across from them open for Sebastian.

The restaurant was slow with service. Vivian excused herself to the restroom, giving the two some privacy.

Sophia seized the chance to ask about teaching methods. Sebastian patiently answered, and their conversation flowed effortlessly.

Outside the floor-to-ceiling window, a black Maybach glided past.

From the backseat, Ethan Roscente's dark gaze fixed on the pair laughing inside.

"Mr. Roscente, this afternoon we're scheduled to visit the hospital—"

Zachary Evans abruptly fell silent, sensing the sudden drop in temperature inside the car.

Following Ethan's line of sight—

Sunlight streamed through the glass, illuminating the two figures. A handsome man and a beautiful woman seated across from each other, looking every bit the perfect couple.
