Chapter 485
Evelyn's eyes fluttered open, still groggy from sleep. The moment she saw Harrison standing by her bedside, hot tears spilled down her cheeks.
"Harrison! Am I dying?"
Harrison immediately rushed to her side, wrapping a protective arm around her trembling shoulders. His voice was firm yet gentle as he reassured her.
"Don't be ridiculous. You're perfectly healthy."
"But I bled so much... My clothes, the sheets... everything's stained..."
Harrison froze as if struck by lightning. A deep flush crept up his neck to the tips of his ears.
"What... what did you say?" he stammered in an unusually quiet voice.
Evelyn's sobs intensified. "Harrison, what's happening to me? I don't want to die!"
He gently placed a finger over her lips. "You're not dying, silly. Just stay here and wait for me."
The tears stopped instantly as Evelyn blinked up at him with watery eyes. "Where are you going?"
Without explanation, Harrison simply repeated, "Be a good girl and wait right here."
Confusion clouded Evelyn's features just as the school nurse hurried in. "I heard about your fainting spell. What happened?"
"Nurse, am I dying?"
The nurse's eyebrows shot up. "What makes you say that?"
Evelyn recounted everything between hiccuping sobs.
After listening carefully, the nurse exhaled in relief and offered a warm smile. "This is completely normal, dear. It's just your body's way of telling you you're becoming a young woman..."
Understanding dawned on Evelyn, and her face burned with sudden embarrassment.
At that moment, Harrison returned, slightly out of breath with perspiration dotting his forehead. He thrust a discreet paper bag into her hands.
"Go change in the restroom. Now."
Evelyn's ears turned scarlet. "Where... where did you even get these?"
"Less talking, more moving," he said, gently pushing her toward the door.
Face still flaming, Evelyn hurried to the restroom. When she returned, she shuffled awkwardly, unable to meet his gaze.
Harrison, however, acted completely normal, handing her a steaming cup. "Drink this. Hot chocolate helps with... discomfort."
Evelyn peeked at him through her lashes. "How do you know all this?"
Instead of answering, Harrison rattled off instructions. "Rest more, drink warm fluids, no strenuous activities."
Despite his bossy tone, warmth blossomed in Evelyn's chest. "Harrison... I'm so lucky to have you."
The moment was interrupted as Elliot and Julian burst in, having rushed over upon hearing about Evelyn's collapse. "Evie! What happened? Are you hurt?"
"Tell us everything! Are you feeling sick now?"
"Didn't you just have a physical? What's wrong?"
Evelyn bit her lip, mortified.
Seeing their frantic expressions, she mumbled incoherently. "I... um..."
Harrison smoothly intercepted them. "She's fine. Just needed some rest."
Elliot narrowed his eyes. "People don't faint for no reason. I'm calling our private physician for a full examination."
