Chapter 251

Dominic rarely visited Pamore. Yet today, he appeared without warning at Evelyn's doorstep.

She didn't beat around the bush. "Dominic, what brings you to Pamore?"

Silently, he handed her a thick manila folder.

"Look at this. It's Nathan's bail application for Isabella at the detention center, along with supplemental materials for early parole."

"Everything's about Isabella. Clearly, he's pulling strings to get her released."

This blindsided Evelyn. There had been zero indications of such moves before.

Her fingers turned icy as she flipped through the documents. "How sentimental of Nathan. Moving mountains for his precious mistress."

"Isabella's crimes are unforgivable. Getting her out won't be simple."

Evelyn's gaze darkened like storm clouds. "I've already intervened, but Nathan's fighting tooth and nail. He's throwing everything at this."

After a weighted pause, Dominic asked, "Evie, what do you really want to do about this?"

"His affairs stopped being my concern long ago."

One crisp sentence drew the clearest boundary between her and Nathan.

Dominic nodded in understanding. "Then consider it handled. If they want her out, they'll pay dearly. The only question is how much."

Evelyn hummed in agreement. She trusted Dominic implicitly.

He pulled out his phone, issuing sharp commands to someone on the other end.

After hanging up, his expression shifted. "Evie, you've been spending considerable time with Adrian Prescott lately. Are you two—"

"Dominic!" She cut him off mid-sentence.

"Marriage alliances have always been family decisions. Our opinions never mattered."

"Now that the arrangement's dissolved, let it rest. Adrian and I are just friends. Nothing more."

Dominic's laughter boomed through the room.

"Just friends? The man secured the Dunhill project for Kingsley Industries. You can't pretend that's coincidence."

"Work and personal matters don't mix. End of story."

Dominic pressed further. "Then what about Harrison? Where do you stand with him?"

Harrison had risked everything to save Evelyn. His feelings were obvious to everyone. With their families' history, the match seemed inevitable.

Evelyn exhaled heavily. "Dominic, Harrison deserves better than me."

"Since when did my sister lose her confidence? You're the Kingsley heiress. Status-wise, you're perfectly matched."

She shook her head, strands of hair catching the light.

"Love isn't about worthiness. It's... I'm scared, okay?"

The admission hung between them. Past wounds made her recoil from Harrison's advances. Trust didn't come easily anymore.
