Chapter 275

"That Evelyn keeps causing trouble for our family. What did we ever do to deserve this? She treats you with such disrespect."

"Rosalind, don't upset yourself. I'll get to the bottom of this. With injuries like yours, even that racecourse won't escape liability."

Rosalind's eyes darkened with realization. "Mother, Evelyn's current boyfriend owns that racecourse. They're clearly working together."

"This is unacceptable! Does she think our family is weak?"

Gwendolyn Blackwood trembled with rage. Her only daughter being treated this way was beyond bearing.

As Gwendolyn turned to leave, Nathan Sterling blocked the doorway.

Gwendolyn's lips curled in disdain. "Nathan, you heard everything. That witch is behind this. Don't you dare protect her again."

Nathan's mouth twisted into a mocking smile. "Aunt Gwendolyn, perhaps you don't know your daughter as well as you think."

"What are you implying?"

"I witnessed everything."

Gwendolyn's face paled. "Nathan, don't tell me you're still taking her side! Look what she did to Rosalind! She's bullied your mother and your—"

Her words struck Nathan like physical blows.

The consequences of his actions three years ago were coming back to haunt him.

He'd believed marrying Evelyn would be enough—that he could keep her like some decorative piece.

For three years, she'd played the perfect wife without complaint.

Even when his mother and sister tormented her.

Even when his entire family treated her with contempt.

She'd endured it all silently.

Never complaining. Never letting him see her pain.

Nathan couldn't fathom how she'd survived it.

Now, divorced, the weight of his mistakes crushed him.

"Aunt Gwendolyn, let me be clear. Evelyn had nothing to do with today. If you go after her, you go through me. And if that happens, Sterling Enterprises cuts all funding to your family."

Gwendolyn nearly choked on her fury.

Her finger shook as she pointed at Nathan, words failing her. "Nathan, that woman has bewitched you!"

"My decision is final. Choose wisely."

Though seething, Gwendolyn knew better than to challenge Nathan. Her family's survival depended on Sterling money.

Without his support, they'd be ruined.

At that moment, Gwendolyn spotted Evelyn standing nearby and shrieked, "You little bitch! How dare you show your face here!"

She lunged, but Nathan intercepted her. "Aunt Gwendolyn, need I remind you?"

Defeated, Gwendolyn slumped against the wall.

Evelyn ignored her, walking straight to Nathan.

Without hesitation, she offered her phone. "The evidence is here."

Nathan didn't take it. He already knew the truth.

"Evelyn... I'm sorry."
