Chapter 128
"The Horizon Technologies grand opening gala is in three days." Olivia Sinclair waved the embossed invitation with a flourish. "Every major corporation in Pamore received one, including Kingsley Industries."
Evelyn Carter studied the gold-foiled letters spelling "HT" on the thick cardstock. Horizon Technologies had been making waves in the business world lately.
This gala would be the social event of the season. The perfect opportunity to network and potentially secure new clients.
"Mark it on my calendar. I'll attend."
"Yes, Ms. Carter."
Evelyn immediately dialed Olivia's number. "Liv, I need you to pick out a showstopper from your boutique for the Horizon gala."
"Let me guess - the Horizon Technologies event?" Olivia's voice bubbled with excitement.
Evelyn's brows arched. "You know about it?"
"Darling, half my appointment book is filled with clients preparing for that gala! But don't worry, I've saved the most breathtaking piece for you. You'll outshine every socialite there!"
"I prefer subtle elegance."
"Consider it done. I'll handle everything."
The next morning, a velvet-clad package arrived at Evelyn's office. Inside lay an exquisite lavender haute couture gown that made her gasp. The intricate beadwork shimmered like morning dew.
"Ms. Carter, this is stunning! It complements your complexion perfectly!" her assistant gushed.
Evelyn's fingers traced the delicate embroidery as she texted Olivia: "This is magnificent! Your eye for design keeps getting sharper!"
Olivia's reply came instantly: "Darling, your gown is still at the boutique! I was planning to deliver it tomorrow before the event."
Confused, Evelyn snapped a photo. "Then whose creation is this?"
"Not mine!" Olivia responded.
Just as Evelyn frowned at the mystery, her phone lit up with a video call. "Aunt Beatrice!"
"Darling, did my little surprise arrive?" Beatrice Whitmore's eyes twinkled.
Realization dawned. "This masterpiece is from you?"
"What do you think? I commissioned it specially from a Parisian designer! Only the best for my favorite niece."
Evelyn's lips curved. "Are you psychic? How did you know I needed a gown? And the timing is impeccable!"
Beatrice's smile turned enigmatic. "Great minds think alike, darling. But you must wear it! I want to see all of Pamore gasp when you arrive."
Evelyn's suspicion grew. "How did you know about tomorrow's event?"
"Lucky guess." Beatrice laughed melodically before adding, "Wear the gown, darling!" and disconnecting.
Evelyn held the dress against herself, spinning before the mirror. "You and I will make quite the impression tomorrow."
The Horizon Technologies gala transformed Pamore's most luxurious seven-star hotel into a glittering wonderland. Crystal chandeliers cast diamond-like reflections across marble floors as the city's elite arrived in a parade of designer gowns and tuxedos.
As the event hour approached, the hotel's circular driveway became a showcase of rare automobiles, each more expensive than the last. Valets scrambled to accommodate the endless stream of luxury vehicles delivering Pamore's most powerful guests.
