Chapter 300
Over a month had passed since their last encounter.
Evelyn closed her textbook and stepped out of the lecture hall. A noisy crowd had gathered nearby, their raucous laughter cutting through the campus air.
Suddenly, the insults began flying in heavily accented English.
"All you Kingsley people are pathetic, crawling like insects."
"Your country was weak then, and you're still spineless now."
"After all these years, you still belong beneath our feet."
Evelyn's hands clenched into fists at her sides. Her chest burned with indignation. Who did these foreign students think they were?
How dare they spew such baseless hatred?
She took a determined step forward when the unmistakable sound of flesh hitting flesh stopped her mid-stride. A pained yelp followed.
"What the hell? You're attacking me now?"
Another solid punch landed before the sentence was finished.
"That's for disrespecting my country!" A familiar voice growled. "Let me show you what a real Kingsley man can do!"
Nathan's fist connected with the foreigner's jaw with brutal precision.
More cries of pain erupted from the group.
Evelyn pushed through the gathering crowd to see Nathan systematically dismantling the bullies. His movements were fluid yet devastatingly efficient.
Within moments, three foreign students lay groaning on the pavement.
Nathan straightened his jacket sleeves with a sharp tug, looking down at them with undisguised contempt. "Consider this your only warning. Next time I see your faces, the consequences will be worse."
He turned abruptly.
Their eyes met, and Evelyn's breath caught in her throat.
"It's you!"
Recognition flashed across Nathan's face.
Without a word, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her away from the scene.
"You were incredible back there!" Evelyn's words tumbled out in an excited rush. "The way they were talking about our country - as if we're still living in the past! They have no idea how far we've come."
Nathan remained silent, his grip firm as he guided her across campus.
"I wish I could've punched them myself," she continued, practically vibrating with adrenaline. "That would've shown them-"
He suddenly stopped in a secluded courtyard, finally releasing her arm.
"Did you see everything?" Nathan's voice was tight.
Evelyn nodded enthusiastically. "Every second! You were amazing!"
Nathan ran a hand through his hair, his expression darkening. "Those aren't just random students. They're connected to some dangerous people on campus." His jaw tightened. "You walked right into their territory without thinking. What if they come after you later?"
The genuine concern in his voice sent warmth spreading through Evelyn's chest. She offered him a reassuring smile. "I can handle myself. They won't dare touch me."
But Nathan's frown deepened. "At least don't walk alone for a while. Wait until this blows over."
Unable to refuse his protectiveness, Evelyn nodded. "Alright, I'll be careful."
"Where are you staying? I'll walk you back." His tone brooked no argument.
Evelyn pointed toward the dormitory buildings. "Just over there."
Wordlessly, Nathan escorted her all the way to her building's entrance. He waited until she disappeared safely inside before turning away, his shoulders still tense with lingering worry.
