Chapter 297
Harrison's voice was sharper than Benedict had ever heard before.
All traces of amusement vanished from Benedict's face. "What's wrong?"
"A life is on the line!"
Benedict didn't need another word.
He hung up and was on his feet in an instant. The stunning woman behind him called out, "Benedict, you're leaving now?"
He didn’t even glance back.
"Everyone, clear out." His tone left no room for argument as he ignored the protests and arranged for a private jet.
—
Two and a half hours later, Benedict landed at Dunhill Hospital.
"Is that Dr. Harrison?"
"Oh my God—am I hallucinating?"
"It's really him!"
Benedict paid no attention to the awestruck whispers of the medical staff.
He had already reviewed Evelyn’s scans mid-flight and mapped out the surgery in his mind.
Without wasting a second, he changed into scrubs and strode into the OR.
The light above the operating room door flickered back to life.
"Can we trust him?" Julian muttered, skepticism lacing his voice.
Dominic’s jaw tightened. "Dr. Harrison doesn’t fail. If he can’t save Evelyn, then..."
He didn’t finish.
None of them had expected things to escalate this badly.
Dominic exhaled sharply. "She’ll make it."
Harrison, who rarely offered comfort, gave a firm nod.
Julian clenched his fists. "Once she’s stable, we handle this ourselves. No one touches Evelyn and walks away."
The words had barely left his mouth when the doors burst open.
"Mr. Sterling, you can’t go in there!"
Nathan’s expression was thunderous. "Move."
The bodyguard stood firm.
"Don’t make this difficult, sir."
"Where is she?" Nathan demanded, but the guard remained silent.
Dominic stepped forward, his voice icy. "You have no business here."
Nathan’s composure cracked. "How is Evelyn?"
"You lost the right to ask that when you signed the divorce papers. Leave."
Nathan’s jaw twitched, but he forced himself to stay calm. "I brought a medical team—"
"Not needed." Dominic cut him off without hesitation.
Nathan’s fists clenched.
He stared at the OR doors, his chest tight. He’d dropped everything the moment he heard—rushed here with the best specialists Pamore had to offer.
And now he couldn’t even see her.
"I’m not leaving until I know she’s safe."
Dominic scoffed. "Suit yourself."
Then he turned his back, dismissing Nathan entirely.
Left standing alone in the sterile hallway, Nathan waited in silence.
The surgery dragged on for eight grueling hours. When the light finally dimmed, the tension was suffocating.
Dominic lunged forward the second Benedict stepped out. "How is she?"
Benedict peeled off his mask, exhaustion lining his face—but his gaze locked onto Harrison’s with quiet certainty.
