Chapter 176

"Professor Whitaker has arrived!" someone announced, causing Cassandra to turn her attention toward the entrance.

"Professor!" Cassandra displayed a respectful demeanor.

Edmund gave a slight nod before walking past her directly to Evelyn. "Ms. Carter!" he called out warmly.

Evelyn looked pleasantly surprised as she greeted him. "Professor Whitaker!"

Edmund smiled. "This is an informal gathering, no need for formalities."

Everyone present noticed the special attention Edmund was showing Evelyn.

Cassandra, standing nearby, quickly approached. "Professor, so this is the Ms. Carter you've spoken so highly of," she remarked.

Extending her hand toward Evelyn, Cassandra introduced herself. "Hello, I'm Cassandra, Professor Whitaker's top student!"

Edmund added, "Cassandra is my most accomplished protégé. She has exceptional design talent. I hope you two can exchange ideas and learn from each other."

Evelyn accepted the handshake. "Hello, I'm Evelyn. It's a pleasure to meet you."

Their brief exchange was polite yet charged with unspoken tension.

"I've gathered everyone here today to discuss an important matter regarding Pamore!" Edmund announced to the assembled designers.

Before he could continue, someone interrupted. "Is this about next month's fashion show in Pamore?"

Edmund nodded. "Each of you represents the finest fashion talent in Pamore. I believe together we can create something extraordinary for this event."

Excited murmurs spread through the crowd as designers began whispering among themselves.

"This will be Pamore's first major fashion showcase, and the world will be watching. If we deliver exceptional designs, we'll put our city on the global fashion map."

"Previous years' shows were always held overseas, but having it here in Pamore is both an honor and an incredible opportunity for us."

Edmund continued, "I'd like us to incorporate local cultural elements into our designs - show the world the unique aesthetic we have to offer."

Olivia, listening to the discussion, nudged Evelyn. "This sounds amazing! Aren't you excited?"

Evelyn arched an eyebrow. "We'll see," she replied noncommittally, though the scale of the project clearly intrigued her.

Observing the group's enthusiasm, Edmund continued, "I want everyone's participation in this event."

"However," he paused dramatically, "we still need to determine who will serve as lead designer. Any suggestions?"

At this, Cassandra's eyes lit up with anticipation. This was the moment she'd been waiting for.

The other designers exchanged hesitant glances, none daring to volunteer for such a demanding role that required both exceptional skill and leadership.

"Professor..." Cassandra was the first to break the silence. "I believe I'm ready for this challenge."

Edmund gave a noncommittal hum, his lack of immediate endorsement causing Cassandra's smile to falter.

She'd studied under Edmund for five years! Her portfolio included numerous acclaimed designs. She was more than qualified for this position.

Yet Edmund seemed reluctant to give her this opportunity.

"Ms. Carter," Edmund suddenly addressed Evelyn, "what are your thoughts?" All eyes immediately turned toward Evelyn.

The crowd's reaction was mixed - confusion, surprise, and not a small amount of envy rippled through the room.
