Chapter 56
Frederick Aldridge's reputation spanned continents, yet the genius remained surprisingly young - barely crossing into his forties.
His tall frame moved with effortless grace as he adjusted his frameless glasses. The moment the host concluded introductions, Frederick ascended the stage to deafening applause.
Reaching the podium's center, his piercing gaze swept across the audience. Instant silence fell like a curtain.
"I appreciate the organizers' gracious invitation..." His voice carried effortlessly through the hall.
After brief pleasantries, he delivered a masterful analysis of the exhibition's highlights, offering sharp insights between measured praises. When Q&A began, only select company representatives earned his attention.
Dozens more raised hands went unanswered. Exactly thirty minutes after his arrival, Frederick stepped down.
As the conference continued, Frederick moved toward his reserved front-row seat. Every executive along the aisle rose to greet him, sparking visible envy among technical staff in rear sections.
Alexander Whitmore sat precisely where Frederick would settle.
When the genius approached, both Alexander and Victoria Kensington stood.
Alexander extended his hand first. "Mr. Aldridge. It's been years."
They'd met over a decade prior during Alexander's early career.
Frederick's customary chill didn't thaw as they shook hands. "Indeed." His demeanor wasn't personal - even his own students received this frost.
Victoria seized her moment. "Mr. Aldridge, Victoria Kensington. An honor." Her manicured hand lingered mid-air.
Frederick granted her a fractional nod before his brief handshake ended the interaction. After acknowledging a few other approaching dignitaries, he took his seat.
Alexander occupied Frederick's right. An influential CEO immediately engaged Frederick's left.
The genius participated just enough to avoid rudeness.
Alexander appeared content simply listening to stage presentations.
Victoria burned to converse with Frederick but Alexander's presence created an obstacle. She leaned closer, whispering, "Did you two have some... disagreement?"
Alexander's lips curved. "No."
"Then why—"
Opportunities like this were vanishingly rare. Most would kill for five minutes with Frederick Aldridge.
Yet Alexander sat beside him like it meant nothing.
She considered asking to switch seats.
But Frederick now conversed with the powerful executive. Interrupting to introduce herself might offend both men.
The idea died unspoken.
Then Alexander murmured, "He thinks I'm mediocre."
Victoria's breath caught. Surely she misheard.
But Alexander's wry smile confirmed it. Yet he seemed... amused?
When he offered no elaboration, she let it drop.
As the event concluded, whispers spread - Frederick wasn't leaving immediately.
