Chapter 505
Nathaniel's assistance made things manageable even without a laptop.
But that afternoon, an urgent matter arose at NovaTech requiring Isabella's immediate attention.
Without proper equipment, handling it became challenging.
Viewing NovaTech files on her phone, Isabella regretted declining Alexander's laptop offer that morning.
The situation demanded swift action.
She ascended the stairs and paused outside Alexander's study.
After a brief hesitation, she knocked.
"Enter."
Alexander sat at his desk, engrossed in work. He glanced up as she opened the door.
He showed no surprise at her appearance.
Before she spoke, he anticipated her need. "Require the laptop?"
Standing by the doorway, Isabella responded, "...Yes."
Alexander smiled and slid the laptop toward her, gesturing for her to take it.
Isabella stepped inside.
She avoided looking around, moving directly to his desk to retrieve the laptop. "Thank you."
Alexander simply smiled without replying.
Isabella said nothing more. She turned and exited with the laptop.
As she left, she heard him say "Continue" to his screen, realizing he was mid-meeting.
Isabella returned to Sophia's room to work.
Sophia wanted to play, but seeing Isabella too preoccupied to respond, she grew slightly sulky.
Alexander entered then.
Sophia hugged a pillow and sighed. "Dad, Mom's so busy..."
Alexander hummed in acknowledgment. He pulled a chair beside Isabella and sat.
The movement made Isabella glance sideways. Seeing him, she remained silent and resumed work.
Since the screen displayed NovaTech materials, Alexander glimpsing it posed no issue.
He had his own tasks but stayed awhile, watching with interest.
After sufficient time passed, he departed, though regret lingered in his eyes.
Isabella's workload extended late into the evening.
During dinner, she sat beside Alexander. "I have more to finish tonight. Do you need the laptop?"
"No, keep using it."
"Alright."
Their smooth interaction pleased Eleanor. Noting Isabella's slim figure, she urged her to eat more.
After dinner, Isabella returned upstairs to work.
Alexander didn't disturb her, staying downstairs to play with Sophia.
Around 9:00 PM, after Sophia's shower and bedtime preparations, she noticed her mother still working, keyboard tapping softly.
Not complaining about noise, Sophia suddenly recalled past habits. "Mom, why not work in your and Dad's room?"
Previously, Isabella always worked in their shared room, not Sophia's.
Isabella's hands paused on the keyboard. After two seconds, she replied, "Working here is fine." She added, "Apologies for disturbing your rest."
"You're not disturbing me." Sophia yawned. "I'll sleep now. Rest early too, Mom. Good night."
"Mm, good night."
Isabella switched off Sophia's main light.
