Chapter 507
Richard had just turned to leave when Alexander brought Isabella's phone over from Sophia's room.
Taking it from his hand, Isabella didn't lift her head. She only spoke softly. "Thank you."
Alexander said nothing.
Isabella got out of bed. She intended to go to Sophia's room to wash up.
Seeming to read her intention, Alexander stood there watching her. Then he spoke. "There's a toothbrush and cup here too."
Isabella's steps paused. Since she had already rested here, washing up here didn't seem to make much difference.
After a brief hesitation, she turned and went into Alexander's bathroom.
While she was brushing her teeth, Gregory arrived.
After she was done washing up, Gregory examined her. He carefully asked about her condition. Then he set up an IV drip for her. He also gave Alexander detailed instructions on what to watch for in the days ahead.
After Gregory left, Alexander brought over the soup that Richard had prepared.
Isabella hesitated briefly before reaching out to take it. "Thank you."
"It's okay."
She was running a high fever now. She felt utterly awful with no appetite at all. But she still forced herself to eat slowly.
While drinking the soup, she suddenly thought of something. Turning her head slightly, she looked at Alexander sitting not far away watching her. She asked in a hoarse voice. "Where's Sophia?"
"She's downstairs. Both Sophia and Grandma are very worried about you. But children are fragile. Grandma hasn't fully recovered yet either. I was afraid they'd catch it from you. So I didn't let them come up."
Isabella managed half a bowl before she couldn't eat any more.
Seeing how hard it was for her, Alexander didn't insist. He took the bowl from her hand. He pulled a tissue and handed it over for her to wipe her mouth.
"If you're not comfortable, just rest. Once the IV's done, I'll call Dr. Whitmore back up."
"Thank you."
Alexander said nothing.
Even though she was exhausted, before sleeping, Isabella still sent a message to Nathaniel. She let him know about her condition.
Nathaniel learned that she had such a high fever. He was very worried too. He told her to focus on getting her health back. As for work, they would talk about it after she recovered.
Putting her phone down, Isabella was about to drift off. Her gaze unintentionally landed on Alexander sitting not far away. He was still working on his laptop.
She looked at him for a moment before closing her eyes to rest.
It was more than two hours later when she woke up again.
Her whole body was drenched in sweat. Her clothes were soaked through.
At some point, the IV had finished. But Alexander was still there keeping watch.
Seeing her awake, he closed his laptop and walked over.
"How are you feeling?"
"Warm."
More precisely, she felt warm and cold at the same time. But the damp clothes clinging to her were unbearable. So she got up and went to the bathroom to change.
When she came back out, Alexander handed her a thermometer.
"I checked your temperature twice earlier. First it dropped quite a bit. But then it started climbing again. Dr. Whitmore said that's normal. The timing's about right now. Let's test again."
Isabella took it. "Okay."
Though still weak, she felt somewhat better than before.
Glancing at Alexander's laptop on the desk, she spoke. "I can take care of myself now. Go ahead with your work."
At that, Alexander looked at her for a moment but didn't reply.
Just then, his phone rang.
He went over to pick it up. Then he answered the call and stepped out of the room.
