Chapter 503

Isabella Sinclair enjoyed two days off after returning from Edinburgh.

She spent the first day completely resting.

On the second morning, just after finishing breakfast.

Her phone rang.

It was Alexander Whitmore calling.

Isabella glanced at the screen before answering. "What is it?"

"Grandma was discharged from the hospital two days ago. She wants you to come to Whitmore Manor for lunch."

Isabella already knew about Eleanor's discharge. She had been away on business in Edinburgh at the time and couldn't personally pick her up from the hospital.

"Understood," Isabella replied.

Just as she was about to hang up, Alexander added, "I'll come pick you up."

"No need, I'll drive myself—"

"Sophia insists on coming with me to get you. She's already putting her shoes on." Alexander interrupted her.

Isabella paused. "...Alright."

"We'll be there shortly."

Isabella remained silent, so Alexander ended the call.

About thirty minutes later, Alexander and Sophia arrived at the Sinclair residence.

The rest of the Sinclair family wasn't home. When Sophia saw Isabella, she happily jumped out of the car, ran over, and hugged her. "Mom!"

From the driver's seat, Alexander lowered the window and turned to look at them.

Once inside the car, Sophia clung to Isabella, chattering about her recent adventures. She mentioned that the gift she bought was already waiting at Whitmore Manor.

While Isabella talked with Sophia, Alexander focused solely on driving. When Sophia finished her stories, he glanced back at Isabella. "You've been resting these past two days?"

"Yes," she answered.

Little else passed between them. Alexander didn't initiate further conversation during the drive.

Eleanor had always been particularly fond of Isabella. Seeing her arrive at Whitmore Manor brought her immense joy.

Noting how much better Eleanor looked, Isabella felt genuinely relieved.

Alexander remained quite busy—while Isabella kept Eleanor company and chatted with her, his phone hardly stopped ringing.

After lunch, Isabella originally planned to stay a bit longer before heading home in the afternoon. But outside, a heavy downpour began and showed no signs of stopping.

Since Eleanor had only just recovered and still felt weak, she went upstairs for her afternoon nap.

Alexander then said to Isabella, "If you're tired, go upstairs and rest too."

Before she could answer, Sophia tugged on her hand and pulled her upstairs.

Instead of going to Alexander's room, Isabella followed Sophia into hers.

When she had cleared out her things from Alexander's house, she had taken almost everything.

But here at Whitmore Manor, she hadn't removed her belongings. Several sets of her clothes still remained in Sophia's wardrobe.

As Isabella searched for pajamas to change into, a knock sounded at the door.

She turned her head. Before she could speak, Alexander, standing in the doorway, saw her rifling through Sophia's closet.

Realizing she must be looking for sleepwear, he made no comment.

His eyes shifted to the bed where Sophia lay. "She's asleep?"

Isabella nodded lightly.

"Rest well," he said.

With that, he gently closed the door and walked away.

It had been a long time since Isabella last stayed at Whitmore Manor. She thought she wouldn't be able to fall asleep, yet shortly after lying down beside Sophia, she drifted off unconsciously.

When she woke, perhaps from sleeping too long, her temples throbbed slightly. Sophia was no longer in the room.

After washing up, she went downstairs but didn't see Eleanor or Sophia—only Alexander sat in the living room, reading.

Noticing her descent, he closed his book and lifted his gaze. "You're awake."
