Chapter 476
Isabella and Alexander walked side by side out of the hospital room.
After putting some distance between them and the door, Isabella spoke first.
"You can say what you need to say now."
Alexander turned to look at her.
"Grandmother's condition isn't stable yet."
"I'd like to postpone our divorce for a few more days."
Isabella didn't meet his gaze.
Her expression remained unchanged, showing no surprise at his request.
After a brief silence, she responded.
"Understood."
"Thank you."
As she started to walk away, Alexander added, "Is there anything you want?"
"As a token of gratitude, I can help you with anything—or grant you a wish."
Isabella paused slightly at his offer but didn't turn around.
Her voice remained calm.
"It's fine."
"You can't give me what I want."
She realized her words might be misinterpreted—that he might think she wanted his love—so she added, "I don't mean what you think."
Alexander chuckled softly.
Standing just two steps behind her, he studied her profile.
"How do you know what I think?"
Isabella didn't know how he had interpreted her words.
Judging by his tone, he didn't seem angry.
Whatever he thought she meant, she didn't intend to explain further.
She simply walked away in silence.
Watching her retreating back, Alexander called out, "Then let's just say I owe you a favor?"
Isabella didn't stop walking.
"Suit yourself."
That evening, news of Eleanor Whitmore's awakening and the delayed divorce between Isabella and Alexander reached both the Sinclair and Kensington families.
Diana Kensington remarked, "It's better that Mrs. Whitmore woke up rather than remaining in a coma."
"Now that she's conscious, Isabella and Alexander's divorce is that much closer."
"However you look at it, this is good news."
Genevieve and Penelope silently agreed, though they didn't voice their opinions aloud.
Genevieve had been in low spirits lately after being publicly rejected by Julian Montgomery in front of Isabella days earlier, so she remained quiet.
Victoria Kensington felt the same way as the others.
In fact, compared to everyone else in both families, she was the most eager to see Isabella and Alexander officially divorce.
Despite her impatience, she had to accept Alexander's decision to delay the divorce for his grandmother's sake.
Eleanor Whitmore's awakening should have made Victoria happy—from any reasonable perspective.
But then she heard that Isabella would be going to the Whitmore Corporation tomorrow...
Last time, Isabella had only briefly demonstrated her skills at Whitmore Corporation and already gained recognition from the R&D department's core team—including Alexander himself.
If she appeared again and showcased her professional abilities once more, and if Alexander witnessed it...
The thought made Victoria lose her appetite.
She clenched her spoon as her mood darkened.
The next day, after visiting Eleanor at the hospital with Margaret Sinclair, Isabella prepared to head to Whitmore Corporation.
Alexander was also at the hospital and knew she would be going there.
By the time Isabella left, it was already late morning.
Since she didn't need to return to NovaTech, she could go straight to Whitmore Corporation.
Alexander also needed to return to the company to handle matters.
In theory, they could have gone together.
But neither of them suggested it.
Instead, they left the hospital separately, one after the other.
When Isabella arrived at Whitmore Corporation, most people were already present in the conference room.
The meeting had been underway for some time.
After Isabella finished speaking with several colleagues, she suddenly noticed Alexander had entered the conference room at some point.
She glanced at him briefly before looking away.
Noticing her confusion, the staff member sitting beside her leaned in and whispered with a smile, "Mr. Whitmore came in more than ten minutes ago."
"He wasn't supposed to attend today's meeting."
"But since he arrived, he's been sitting there watching and listening to you speak the whole time..."
"It's pretty obvious he came just to hear your presentation."
Isabella had already built a strong reputation in Whitmore Corporation's technical department.
In fact, many people from the department wanted to attend her sessions, though not everyone had access to the conference room.
Isabella said nothing in response.
The meeting continued.
After she finished another round of explanations, Alexander still showed no intention of leaving.
Just then, someone gestured outside the glass wall and leaned toward him to whisper, "Mr. Whitmore, Ms. Kensington is here."
Alexander heard the message and retracted his gaze from Isabella, looking toward the conference room entrance.
Victoria was indeed standing just outside the door.
Others in the room also noticed her presence.
Since they were on a break, someone gossiped in a low voice, "Mr. Whitmore's girlfriend came to the office to find him again."
Isabella overheard the comment but didn't react.
Seeing Victoria, Alexander stood up and left the conference room.
Walking toward her, he asked, "Didn't you say you had something to handle at InnovaTech?"
"Why did you suddenly come over?"
