Chapter 415
Isabella recognized Eleanor immediately.
After exchanging pleasantries, her gaze shifted to Evelyn with a warm smile. "You must be Evelyn Sinclair?"
This was their first meeting. Evelyn responded politely, "Yes, that's correct."
Eleanor gave an approving nod. "You're quite lovely - both inside and out."
She'd been fully briefed about Evelyn's mother's condition before arriving at the medical center.
Yet rather than rushing to prescribe treatment, she preferred to assess the situation thoroughly first.
Isabella and Margaret had intended to stay throughout the examination and treat her to lunch afterward.
But Eleanor insisted they leave, promising to contact them once she finalized the treatment plan.
"As for dining together," she told Evelyn with a kind smile, "we'll have plenty of opportunities later - no need to rush."
With no other choice, Evelyn and Margaret departed for the time being.
After leaving the medical facility, Evelyn returned to her office while Margaret accompanied Eleanor back to the Sinclair estate.
That evening after work, Evelyn joined the family for dinner at the estate. Margaret remained present throughout the meal.
As Margaret prepared to leave afterward, she took Evelyn's hand gently and sighed.
She knew about the finalized divorce papers between Evelyn and Alexander days earlier.
Since the decision was made, she wouldn't interfere. Even if she wanted to, some stubborn individuals wouldn't listen anyway.
Perhaps starting fresh was truly best for Evelyn after all.
With that thought, Margaret simply said, "Take care of yourself, dear."
Evelyn nodded. "I will. You too, Grandmother."
Upon returning to the Whitmore mansion, Margaret froze upon seeing an unexpected visitor in the parlor.
"What are you doing here?"
Alexander turned from the window. "You scolded me so harshly yesterday. I assumed you missed me."
Margaret scoffed and asked the housekeeper, "When did he arrive?"
"Around six, madam. I meant to inform you, but Mr. Whitmore insisted-"
"Nana!" Sophia came bounding down the staircase.
Seeing the child, Margaret finally smiled.
She embraced the girl warmly. "Sophia darling, have you eaten dinner yet?"
"Papa and I already ate. What about you, Nana?"
"Yes, dear," Margaret replied, though her weariness showed after the long day.
Alexander noticed immediately. "I actually came to discuss something, but you're clearly exhausted. Perhaps tomorrow morning-"
Margaret knew whatever he wanted would involve Victoria Kensington.
"I can't control your decisions, but spare me these discussions." Her tone turned sharp.
Sophia, witnessing her grandmother's rare irritation, asked innocently, "Nana, are you upset?"
"Just tired, sweetheart." Margaret's expression softened toward the child before hardening again toward Alexander. "Evelyn's mother is gravely ill. Were you aware?"
Even with Eleanor's expertise, Evelyn's mother's condition might be too advanced.
Alexander responded evenly, "I am now."
His detached tone revealed nothing. No surprise, no concern - just the same cold indifference toward Evelyn's troubles.
Sophia looked up. "Hasn't Grandma Evelyn been sick for a long time?"
She vaguely remembered Evelyn mentioning her mother's chronic illness years ago.
"Your grandmother has developed a new condition," Margaret explained gently.
Then without glancing at Alexander, she said coldly, "In future, keep your personal affairs to yourself. You may leave now."
