Chapter 305

Victoria suddenly remembered something. "Isn't Montgomery Industries hiring right now? They should have a suitable position for Sophia. Let me call Julian."

Alexander smiled approvingly. "That would be perfect."

Sophia knew about Julian Montgomery. She'd heard he grew up with Alexander and had always admired Victoria. Whenever Victoria needed anything, Julian would move mountains to help her.

She wanted to protest about not needing favors, but Beatrice Kensington cut in first. "Thank you, Victoria! We truly appreciate your help with this."

Victoria waved it off. "It's nothing."

The conversation shifted away from Sophia. Victoria and Alexander sat close together, speaking in hushed tones that excluded everyone else. Their effortless intimacy made Sophia think of Isabella Sinclair, who was out shopping alone today.

Sophia leaned toward Genevieve. "When is the divorce happening?"

It took Genevieve a moment to realize Sophia meant Alexander and Isabella. She smirked. "Soon. There's just some asset division complications. Alexander doesn't want Isabella using money as an excuse to interfere with him and Victoria, so he's settling all financial matters first."

Hearing Isabella would receive assets, Sophia felt some relief. She'd assumed Alexander would leave his wife with nothing, given how much he seemed to despise her.

The mention of assets clearly irritated Genevieve. Without prompting, she added bitterly, "If Alexander wasn't worried that bitch would run crying to Eleanor Whitmore and block the divorce, he wouldn't give her a single cent."

Sophia murmured, "I see." After a pause, she asked, "So it's a small portion then?"

"Not exactly small." Genevieve's lips twisted. "More than she deserves. Everything Alexander's giving her was approved by Victoria first. Just for appearances. It's not much."

Sophia understood. Given Alexander's wealth, if Genevieve was this upset, the amount must be substantial. That knowledge comforted her.

To Genevieve, Isabella's share might seem insignificant compared to Alexander's total fortune. But Sophia knew even that "small" amount equaled what Alexander had spent on Victoria over the years. No wonder Genevieve was sour - money she considered rightfully theirs was going to Isabella.

Genevieve suddenly remembered Victoria's suggestion about Montgomery Industries. She shot Sophia a sharp look. "Once you're there, keep an eye on Julian for me. Don't let other women near him, understand?"

Sophia had heard from Beatrice about Genevieve's unrequited crush on Julian, one of Salzburg's most eligible bachelors. Unsure how to respond, Sophia hesitated. "That...it's not confirmed yet. I might not even get the position."

Genevieve scoffed. "You don't know Julian. If Victoria asks, he'll say yes immediately."

Sophia could only murmur, "Oh..."

Alexander had business to attend to and prepared to leave. The Kensington and Whitmore families held him in such high regard that everyone escorted him out.

Beatrice wanted Sophia established in Salzburg quickly. After Alexander left, she reminded Victoria about the job request.

Seeing an opportunity, Victoria took out her phone to call Julian.

But the line rang endlessly with no answer.
