Chapter 295
Alexander responded immediately. "Understood."
Saturday morning arrived with crisp autumn air as Isabella drove to the Montgomery estate. Most of the Montgomery family resided abroad, leaving only Charles and a handful of servants present when she arrived.
Hearing of her arrival, Charles personally came to greet her. "Isabella, you're here?"
"Yes," she smiled. Though he appeared healthier than expected, she couldn't help noticing, "You've lost weight."
Charles chuckled. "A little, but my spirits are high—no need to worry."
They moved inside where Charles served tea. His failure to ask about Alexander's absence confirmed what Isabella suspected—he already knew about their impending divorce.
Not only did Charles avoid mentioning Alexander, but he also didn't bring up Sophia—another clear sign he knew about the custody arrangements.
Their conversation flowed easily over tea until interrupted twenty minutes later by a maid announcing another guest's arrival.
Charles showed no intention of greeting them, instead offering Isabella pastries. She accepted politely, sampling a delicate macaron.
Then came the butler's voice from the side entrance. "Mr. Whitmore, this way please."
Charles glanced toward the sound, his expression immediately darkening.
The clicking of designer heels confirmed Isabella's suspicion. She turned slightly to see Alexander entering with Victoria Kensington on his arm.
Both noticed her immediately. Alexander gave her the briefest nod before addressing Charles. "Mr. Montgomery."
Charles responded with a cold grunt. Undeterred, Alexander continued, "Mr. Montgomery, may I introduce Victoria Kensington."
Victoria acted as if Isabella were invisible, offering Charles a practiced smile. "A pleasure, Mr. Montgomery."
Though Charles clearly knew about the divorce and Alexander's relationship with Victoria, he hadn't expected such a brazen public appearance so soon.
"Did I invite you?" Charles asked icily. "Then don't address me so familiarly."
"Mr. Montgomery," Alexander pressed, clearly displeased by the reception.
Charles remained stone-faced.
Unfazed, Alexander guided Victoria to the opposite sofa, making himself at home. Just days after taking Victoria to meet his family, he was now parading her before Charles?
With divorce papers nearly signed, was he so eager to introduce his mistress to everyone important in his life?
Isabella kept her eyes lowered, sipping her tea in silence.
When Charles made no move to serve them, Alexander reached for the teapot himself.
Charles slapped his hand away sharply. "Don't touch what I've prepared!"
Alexander smirked. "Shall I brew my own then?"
