Chapter 91
Kathie sat in the car, shivering. Jonathan wrapped her in a towel and held her close.
"Feeling any better? Still cold?" he asked.
Kathie sighed, "Ever since I met you, I've been running into all sorts of problems. Even my health is getting worse."
Jonathan chuckled, "Maybe you're just getting older."
Kathie shot him a deådly glare. "If you can't say anything nice, just zip it."
Jonathan immediately shut his mouth. Dennis, who was driving, stifled a laugh. It was the first time he'd seen Jonathan so afraid of a woman.Usually, everyone was terrified of Jonathan. When he got angry, no one
dared to speak.
But now, Jonathan was completely under this woman's thumb. It seemed he had fallen in love.
Despite Kathie's harsh words, Jonathan still held her close to keep her warm.
"If I get sick, it should count as a work injury. You owe me compensation for emotional distress," she said.
Jonathan nodded indulgently. "I'Il cover it all."
Kathie felt a warmth in her heart, thinking about how he had risked his life to save her. Even though he could stand, swimming in the water must have been incredibly painful for him. Yet, he had come for her, letting her take his place while hestayed in the water. If he didn't love her, he wouldn't have gone to such lengths.
wondered how Jonathan was doing. With Dennis taking care of him,he should be fine.
Kathie knocked on his door to check on him, only to find him sitting in his wheelchair, still in his wet clothes.
"Jonathan, are you nuts? Why haven't you taken a shower?" she exclaimed, rushing over.
Jonathan gave a bitter smile. "I can't stand up to reach the showerhead."
Kathie was speechless. "Where's Dennis? Even if he's not here, you could at least change out of your wet clothes and wrap yourself in a blanket.
How can you sit like this? It's freezing. Come on, take them off."
As she helped him out of his wet clothes, she blushed at the sight of the red marks all over his body. She felt embarrassed, realizing how, much she had scratched him.
"Are you shy?" Jonathan teased.
"Say one more word, and I'll ignore you," Kathie warned.
Jonathan nodded obediently. "I sent Dennis to investigate the ship to prevent Flynn from destroying evidence. As for why I didn't change,I wanted you to help me. I didn't get into bed because I was too dirty."
Kathie sighed. "Your health is more important right now. Don't worry about being dirty."
Jonathan looked at her. "Alright, I'll listen to you from now on."
Kathie rolled her eyes and filled the bathtub with hot water, helping him in with her eyes closed.
Jonathan joked, "You don't need to close your eyes. You've already seen
"One more word, and IIl make you mute,"' she threatened.
"If you can bear it, I don't mind," he replied.
Kathie opened her eyes to glare at him but quickly looked away, embarrassed by what she saw in the tub. "I'll go find you some clothes."
Jonathan smiled, knowing Kathie cared about him.
At Saint Charles Memorial Hospital, Patricia picked up the DNA report for Kathie's three children and Jonathan. She had always thought the kids looked too much like Jonathan. Initially, she suspected they were Harold's children, but there was no connection between him and Kathie.
She had arranged for a housekeeper at Maple Grove Residence to get Jonathan's hair and toothbrusha for the test. Patricia was determined to find out if the kids were related to Jonathan.
Taking a deep breath, she opened the report. Seeing the 99% match, her mind went blank. "How is this possible? Jonathan is really the father?"
Patricia remembered Jonathan being drugged at a hotel years ago. He had been with a college student hired to entertain him. Jonathan had left the room with some awareness, ending up in someone else's room. Patricia had to pay off the student to keep her quiet. It wasn't Kathie.
What had gone wrong? Could it have been Kathie that night?
Jonathan and Kathie didn't know about this. Patricia couldn't let anyone find out. She needed to find that college student to understand what happened.
The thought of the kids being Jonathan's made Patricia tremble. If the Berkeley family found out, they'd welcome Kathie back with open arms, and Patricia would lose her chance.
No way. She had loved Jonathan for too long to let anyone else have him.
That evening at the restaurant, Austin had called to teIl Jonathan they didn't need to come. suggesting they rest after their ordeal. But Jonathan couldn't let them meet alone, unsure of what tricks Flynn might pull. He needed to keep an eye on things.
"Ms. Cavendish, you look unwell but still came. You're dedicated. Mr.Berkeley doesn't seem to care about you, making you come out to drink. If it were me. I wouldn't let you," Flynn said, trying to stir trouble.
Kathie smiled knowingly. "I'm fine. Mr. Berkeley was worried about Mrs.
Roberts and wanted me to be here to help."
Austin, grateful, said, "Mr. Berkeley is very considerate. I toast to you.
Knowing your condition, you can drink tea instead."
Jonathan raised his teacup. "It's our duty. Once I'm better, we'll have a proper drink."
Kenna smiled. "Ms. Cavendish's remedy was delicious and helped with my nausea. Your medical skills are impressive."
Kathie responded warmly, "It's my honor to help. If you need anything, just ask. I have experience with children and can answer any questions."
Kenna beamed. "That's wonderful. We're new parents and often overwhelmed. You've solved a big problem for us."
Jonathan gave Kathie an approving look. "Eldoria is a beautiful place. Mrs.Roberts should visit when you can."
"Absolutely. I have many questions for Ms. Cavendish. I'm lucky to have met her," Kenna said, full of admiration.
Flynn seethed. He hadn't expected Kathie, a mere secretary,to steal the
spotlight. He needed to get rid of her to succeed in this project.
